WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFEATED BY ROBERT MORRIS

Moon Township, Pa. – The Le Moyne College women's soccer team were defeated today in its second game of the season.

"Today's game was a very good and challenging test for us in preparation for our next game," said head coach Jaro Zawislan. "The next few days we will continue to develop ahead of Thursday's matchup against Niagara."

The Dolphins would make three changes to their starting lineup from Thursday's game against Maine. Senior midfielder Gabriella Sylstra (Little Falls, N.Y./Little Falls/Richard Bland/Old Dominion), who made her season debut, senior midfielder Danielle Casey (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and freshman midfielder Sara Ullman (Washington D.C./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) all made their debut in the starting XI for the 2024 season.

The second leg of last year's matchup against Robert Morris began with the Dolphins defending their net early. The Colonials were looking to slip in behind the Dolphin defense, as they picked up two offsides calls within the first seven minutes of action. Shortly after, Robert Morris were able to register two shots at the Le Moyne net, the second shot being on target leading to the first save of the game for freshman goalkeeper Mikayla McPheron (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy).

Midfielder Gabriella Sylstra was able to register the first shot of the game for the Dolphins in the 14th minute of the game. The two teams would continue to battle back and forth with each side committing two fouls on the other. The Dolphins would make the first change of the game in the 25th minute, as sophomore midfielder Kyla Sustad (Willet, N.Y./Cincinnatus/Merrimack) came on to replace Ullman.

Le Moyne earned themselves a corner in the 40th minute of the first half, which resulted in the 'Phins second shot of the game from Casey going to the right of the post. On the ensuing possession, Robert Morris would score the first goal of the game in the 42nd minute off a corner kick scored by Junior defender Emerson Johngarlo. The Colonials would add another just before the half by Junior forward Malia Kearns. The 'Phins would go into the break down 2-0.

Robert Morris started the second half early, firing a shot at the Le Moyne goal after just two minutes of play. McPheron saved the first attempt, but junior forward Paloma Swankler was able to find the back of the net, making the score 3-0 in favor of the Colonials. The Dolphins would make two changes in the 50th minute that saw Sustad return into the game for senior defender Katelyn Courcy (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy), and freshman forward Alivia Day (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) replacing junior midfielder Lindsey LeBlanc (Westminister, Mass./St. Bernard's).

Sustad would fire off the only two shots on target for the game for the Dolphins, both of which resulting in a save from the Colonials graduate student goalkeeper Brenna Murray. Le Moyne would register just two more shots throughout the game. Freshman goalkeeper Simone Schwarz-Eise (Scottsdale, AZ/Averill Park) would make her debut with the Dolphins, replacing McPheron in the 73rd minute of the game.

Robert Morris would eventually add another two goals to their tally, as the game finished 5-0. The Dolphins conclude their quick road trip and will be back in action this Thursday as they're set to take on the Purple Eagles of Niagara at 1:00 P.M. on Ted Grant Field.
