WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO SIENA

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Le Moyne College women's soccer team were defeated in it's match against Siena College.

"Not the result we were looking for from another home game," said head coach Jaro Zawislan. "We started the first half well, and were organized defensively in the way we wanted, but had a tough spell that resulted in giving up three goals."

The Dolphins were looking for their first win of the season coming into today's contest, as the Saint's looked to even their record at 2-2.

The 'Phins made just one change to their starting lineup from Niagara, which saw freshman goalkeeper Simone Schwarz-Eise (Scottsdale, AZ/Averill Park) make her debut in the starting XI.

Le Moyne would have the first shot on target of the game, as sophomore Kyla Sustad (Willet, N.Y./Cincinnatus/Merrimack) cut in from the left side of the field and fired of a shot which was saved by freshman goalkeeper Cate Burns of the Saints. Siena would create the next two chances of the game, although both shots were off target.

The Saint's would score the first goal of the game off a corner kick with 22:37 left in the first half. Junior defender Sarah Harnett played a curling ball into the box, which was met by freshman midfielder Catherine Rogers. Siena would add another goal just over a minute later as Rogers played a through ball in behind the defense, finding sophomore forward Megan Stowell who calmly passed the ball into the bottom right corner. Siena would score their third goal of the game with 14:45 left in the half off a set piece inside the box, this time Stowell laying it off to Rogers who fired it into the top corner from roughly five yards out.

The Dolphins had a much stronger second half of the game, as Siena found it difficult to break through the defense. Junior defender Jasmina Barhoumi (Worms, Germany/Nelly-Sachs-IGS/D'Youville) found herself in a new role in the middle of the field for Le Moyne. Freshman midfielder Ajla Ikeljic (Utica, N.Y./Frankfurt-Schuyler) and freshman forward Alivia Day (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) provided valuable minutes off the bench for the Dolphins. Sophomore forward Hope Adigun (Clay, N.Y./Liverpool) and senior defender Katelyn Courcy (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) also provided a spark for the 'Phins.

Le Moyne would create more chances late into the second half, as sophomore midfielder Giovanna Vigliotti (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) hit the woodwork off of a layoff pass from senior midfielder Danielle Casey (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) that was inches from crossing the line.

The 'Phins would eventually find the back of the net with five minutes to go off a corner kick taken by Sustad. Her corner landed on the head of Casey who redirected the ball to the back post towards redshirt freshman Logan Cookinham (Poland, N.Y./Poland), who headed the ball into the back of the net, and scoring the first goal of the season for Le Moyne.

"There were a lot of positives in the second half," said head coach Jaro Zawislan. "We found out a lot about some of our players who stepped in and raised the level of play. Overall, we look to build off of the success in the second half ahead of our contest Sunday against Iona."

The Dolphins will be back home Sunday at 1:00 P.M., as the Gaels of Iona University travel to Ted Grant Field.
