VOLLEYBALL HOSTS BINGHAMTON, FALLS IN FOUR SETS

Syracuse N.Y..  – The Le Moyne College volleyball team hosted the Binghamton University Bearcats on Tuesday evening. Binghamton came into the matchup with an 8-5 record on the year and took three of four sets to win the match with set scores of; 25-16, 22-25, 25-9, 25-13 to bring the Dolphins record to 1-9 on the season.  

The Dolphins fought to a 9-9 tie mid-way through the first frame, but the Bearcats went on a quick nine-point run to pull away and take set one, 25-16. Le Moyne stormed into set two, taking a 21-13 lead, and held on despite a fierce comeback attempt from the Bearcats. The Dolphins came away with a set two victory, 25-22; their first set win as a D-I program. Set three was highlighted by multiple five-point runs by Binghamton before they eventually took the set, 25-9. The Bearcats closed out the match in the fourth set, as they were able to hold on, 25-13, despite a comeback attempt by Le Moyne.

For Le Moyne, freshman outside hitter Jordyn Hamlin (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) led with 12 kills, while freshman outside hitter Nina Salas (Austin, T.X. / McNeil) added eight more. Freshman setter Skylar Jehlen (Rochester, N.Y. / Churchville-Chili) led the team in assists with 16, followed closely behind by junior setter Haley Gerken (Buffalo, N.Y. / Frontier) who recorded another 15 for the Dolphins. On the defensive end, freshman libero/DS Brooke Menke (St. Louis, M.O. / Visitation Academy) tallied a team-leading 10 digs, with Hamlin and Salas contributing eight and seven, respectively. Junior middle hitter Kayla Anstett (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) and freshman outside hitter Jazmin Rodriguez (Madera, C.A. / Madera) each recorded three blocks in the match.

For Binghamton, Tsvetelina Ilieva put up a game-high 24 kills while Ella Schabort and Viktoria Dimitrova added another 10 each. Lottie Scully tallied 35 assists in the win while adding 10 digs, only behind Emily Cronkhite with 11. Misa Dlouha (six) and Dimitrova (five) led the Bearcats in blocks throughout the victory.

The Dolphins will hit the road to take on the University of New Hampshire (6-6) on Friday, Sept. 27 at 6:00 P.M.
