Hanover, N.H. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team was upended by DePaul University, 5-2, to open the Spring season on Saturday evening at Dartmouth College's Boss Tennis Center.
The Blue Devils won two of the three doubles matches to claim the first point of the match. At the second position, Thomas Giles and Sven Moser recorded a 7-5 win over freshmen
Jacob Maravillas (Bergenfield, N.J./Homeschooled) and
Luke Hoyland (Sheffield, England/Birkdale School). Matteo Iaquinto and Marko Milosavljevic tallied a 6-4 victory at the third spot over freshmen
Callum Matthew (Dorset, England) and
Lorenzo Bortolaso (Bassano del Grappa, Italy/IT IS Enrico Fermi). Senior
Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) and junior
Adrian Daniel (Tel Aviv, Israel/Montana State) were victorious at the first position over Tobias Leitner and Jona Gitschel, 7-6 (3-2).
Le Moyne won the first two singles positions, but DePaul took the bottom four to clinch the match. Hatton registered his 53rd career victory – five away from the program record – over Iaquinto at the first position, 6-1, 6-3. Matthew claimed the point at the second spot over Pablo Torres Almeida, 7-5, 7-6 (10-8). Leitner rallied to defeat Maravillas at the third position, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-4. Milosavljevic downed Daniel in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, at the fourth spot. Giles rallied at the fifth position for a 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-4 win over Hoyland. Moser was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at the sixth spot over sophomore
Yegor Boyev (London, England/Ashcroft Technology Academy).
Le Moyne (0-1) is back in action on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. against Dartmouth College.
