FDU RECORDS 3-1 WIN OVER MEN’S SOCCER IN NEC SEMIFINAL

Teaneck, N.J. – NEC Player of the Year Arnau Rabassa Guillamon had a goal and an assist in the first 13 minutes of the second half to lead top-seeded FDU to a 3-1 come-from-behind win over the fourth-seeded Le Moyne College men's soccer team in the semifinals of the NEC Championship on Thursday at University Stadium.

FDU, which knocked the Dolphins out of the NEC Tournament for the third straight year, advances to the title game for the second straight year and for the third time in four seasons. The Knights will take on second-seeded Saint Francis University, which was a 2-0 winner over third-seeded LIU.

Following 29 and one-half minutes of scoreless action to start the game, during which the Dolphins had a 7-2 advantage in shots, including 3-1 in shots on goal, Le Moyne struck for the first goal. Off an errant pass from the right sideline by an FDU defender, the goalkeeper tried to clear the ball from just outside the top of the penalty box, but NEC First Team All-Conference graduate student forward Francesco Pagano (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius/Syracuse/Coastal Carolina) was able to get a leg on the ball and knock it into the net for his sixth goal of the campaign.

Each team got off one shot over the final 14 minutes of the half, but neither was on target.

Just over 90 seconds into the second half, the Knights evened the score at one apiece. Off a corner kick from the right side from Takuto Nishide, Rabassa Guillamon sent the ball from the top right corner of the penalty box towards the far left post. Connor O'Reilly ran into the goal box and knocked the ball into the net for his third goal of the season.

Rabassa Guillamon netted the game-winning goal into the upper right corner of the net from the top of the penalty box with 32:02 remaining after taking a give-and-go pass from Victor Labite.

Just over three minutes later, O'Reilly added an insurance goal off another corner kick by Nishide, this time from the left side.

Le Moyne, which finishes the season with a 5-10-2 record and qualified for a conference tournament for the 24th straight year, took the final three shots of the game, including one on goal by Pagano, but was not able to cut into its deficit.
