WOMEN'S SOCCER CONCLUDES 2025 SEASON WITH A 1-0 WIN OVER SAINT FRANCIS


Loretto, Pa. – The Le Moyne College women's soccer team concluded its 2025 campaign with a 1-0 victory over Saint Francis Sunday afternoon.

The Dolphins and Red Flash met in Loretto, Pa. in what was the final match of the 2025 NEC women's soccer season. Le Moyne entered today's contest following a 1-0 loss against Stonehill on Thursday. Saint Francis were defeated 5-0 against Howard University in Washington, D.C. on Thursday.
 
Le Moyne started the game on the front foot, earning a corner kick in the first minute of the game. Graduate student midfielder Danielle Casey (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) registered the first shot of the game in the 12th minute of the game. Her effort towards the bottom left corner was saved by senior goalkeeper Emma Sawich of the Red Flash.
 
Sawich made her second save of the game just three minutes later off a header from sophomore forward Alivia Day (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta), resulting in another corner kick for the 'Phins.
 
Freshman defender Giana Cutuli (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) stepped up to take the corner, as junior midfielder Giovanna Vigliotti (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) provided a short option. Cutuli raised her hand, playing the ball towards the back post, as Casey climbed over the Red Flash defender, heading the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal to give the 'Phins an early 1-0 lead in the 15th minute.
 
Day forced Sawich to make her third save of the game after just sixteen minutes of action as her shot on target went down the center of the goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Mikayla McPheron (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) made her first save of the game in the 17th minute off a shot headed towards the bottom right corner taken by junior midfielder Lucia Johnson. She added her second save of the game in the 27th minute off a shot taken by freshman midfielder Angelina Kasak down the center of the net.
 
The Dolphins made three changes to their lineup in the 30th minute, as fifth year midfielder Gabriella Sylstra (Little Falls, N.Y./Little Falls/Richard Bland/Old Dominion), freshman midfielder Ella Lathrop (Walworth, N.Y./Ruben A. Cirillo), and junior forward Hope Adigun (Clay, N.Y./Liverpool) made their first appearances of the game. Sophomore forward Nicole Calle (Providence, R.I./Cumberland) also entered the game in the 35th minute of the game.
 
McPheron made her third save of the game in the 44th minute off a shot taken by junior defender Riley Cerqua as her attempt on goal headed towards the bottom left corner. On the ensuing possession, Sylstra forced Sawich into making another with forty seconds remaining in the half, as the two sides entered the break with Le Moyne holding a 1-0 advantage over Saint Francis.
 
The Red Flash registered the first shot on target of the 2nd half, as McPheron made her fourth save of the game in the 49th minute off a shot taken by junior midfielder Mercedez Paino. Freshman forward Kaitlyn Gilhooly (Chicopee, Mass./Chicopee Comprehensive) earned the first shot on target of the 2nd half for the 'Phins in the 55th minute, forcing Sawich to make a save just under the crossbar. Senior defender Jadyn Kantak (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) recorded her first shot of the game in the 58th minute, however her attempt was off target.
 
Freshman midfielder Grace Gironda (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South) was substituted on in the 58th minute, and twenty seconds later recorded her first shot of the game, forcing Sawich to make her sixth save of the match. Vigliotti was awarded the games first and only yellow card of the game in the 74th minute of the game.
 
Day registered a shot on target in the 86th minute of the game as her attempt headed towards the bottom left corner of the goal, as Sawich made her seventh and final save of the game. The Dolphins were able to see out the game as the match ended with Le Moyne taking all three points in the final match of the season.
