MEN’S BASKETBALL USES LATE RUN FOR 76-63 VICTORY OVER LAFAYETTE

Easton, Pa. – Graduate student forward Shilo Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central/Vincennes/Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) tallied his third double-double of the season to lead the Le Moyne College men's basketball team to a 76-63 come-from-behind victory over Lafayette College on the first day of The Lafayette Classic on Friday evening at the Kirby Sports Center.

Jackson registered a game-high 21 points, including 15 in the first half, a career best-tying 15 rebounds, including 11 in the second half, a career-high five blocks to go with two assists and two steals. Redshirt sophomore guard Deng Garang (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) tallied 17 points and grabbed seven first-half rebounds. Junior guard Tennessee Rainwater (Davenport, Wash./Davenport/Utah Tech) scored a season-high 14 points, including nine in the second half, and pulled down a season-best six rebounds.

Caleb Williams and Andrew Phillips each recorded 18 points to lead Lafayette, while Williams added six assists and five rebounds and Phillips grabbed seven rebounds.

After the teams traded points to start the game, the Dolphins, specifically Jackson, scored six straight points for their first five-point lead of the game.

The Leopards answered with nine of the next 11 points to take the lead back with 11:41 left. Williams started the run with a three-pointer and Luke Bevilacqua added four points.

Following back-and-forth action over the next three and one-half minutes, Garang and Jackson had back-to-back baskets to put the Dolphins back up by five with 6:19 remaining.

The teams traded points over the next four minutes before Lafayette posted a 9-2 run for a 38-35 lead with one minute left. Phillips and Williams hit three-pointers around a three-point play by Mark Butler.

Rainwater made a free throw and sophomore guard Jakai Sanders (Brooklyn, N.Y./Eagle Academy/Saint Peter's) hit a jumper as time expired to tie the score at halftime.

After Garang hit a three-pointer to put the Dolphins up 43-42, Lafayette scored seven straight points. Phillips hit a three-pointer for the lead before Shareef Jackson made a lay-up and Ryan Pettit made two free throws.

Garang scored five straight points to pull the Dolphins within one, but Williams answered with a three-pointer and three free throws to give the Leopards their largest lead of the game, 55-48, with 11:58 remaining.

Le Moyne scored nine of the next 10 points to take the lead back and 19 of the next 22 points to take the lead for good. Rainwater started the run with a lay-up and put the Dolphins in front, 57-56, with a three-pointer with 7:22 left.

After Lafayette regained the lead with a dunk by Humphrey-Rembert, the Dolphins scored the next 10 points. Jackson, junior guard Samuel Hincapie (Medellin, Colombia/Gateway Legacy Prep (Mo.)/Lake Land College), redshirt junior guard Trent Mosquera (Boston, Mass./Belmont Hill School), Sanders and Rainwater each had two points in the span.

The Leopards used a 5-2 spurt to cut their deficit to 69-63, but the Dolphins closed out the game with the last seven points. Mosquera drained a three-pointer and made two free throws around a lay-up by Hincapie.

Le Moyne (3-4) continues play at The Lafayette Classic on Saturday against Monmouth University at 2:00 p.m.
