WAGNER DEFEATS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL, 61-56

Staten Island, N.Y. – Graduate guard Julia Fabozzi tallied 24 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Wagner College Seahawks to a 61-56 victory over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team Thursday evening at Wagner's Spiro Sports Center.

Fabozzi shot 5-of-9 from three-point range, and the Seahawks tallied 19 assists on 22 made field goals to avenge a 62-52 loss at Le Moyne on February 1.

Le Moyne graduate forward Haedyn Roberts (Holland Patent, N.Y./Holland Patent) scored in double figures for the ninth consecutive game and tallied her third double-double of the season with a team-high 12 points and 11 rebounds Thursday. Senior guard Mia Yanogacio (Somerset, N.J./Rutgers Prep/Delaware) shot 4-of-5 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point range to register 11 points in 25 minutes off the bench for the 'Phins, while graduate guard Megan Bodziony (Wakefield, R.I./St. Andrew's School/Fordham/Bryant) added 10 points.

Graduate guard Taleah Washington also scored in double figures for Wagner with 10 points, while junior guard Irene Fernandez de Caleya tallied nine points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals in 31 minutes of action off the bench.

The Seahawks shot 9-of-24 from three during the win, which is tied for the most threes they have made in a conference game so far this season.

Both teams shot the ball well during the opening period. The Dolphins went 7-of-12 from the field, including 4-of-7 from three in the first 10 minutes, while the Seahawks went 7-of-11, including 4-of-6 from long range in the opening stanza as the Dolphins established a 20-18 lead heading into the second frame.

Le Moyne shot 7-of-10 from the line during the second period, but Wagner outscored the 'Phins 18-11 during the quarter to take a 36-31 lead into the intermission.

The Dolphins took a 23-18 lead early in the second quarter, but the Seahawks responded with a quick 9-0 burst via consecutive threes from Angelie Ricard, Fabozzi and Fernandez de Caleya.

Wagner took its largest lead of the game, a 43-34 advantage, with 5:51 remaining in the third quarter following a layup from Fernandez de Caleya, but Le Moyne quickly trimmed the deficit to four with two free throws from Linnin, a three-pointer from Yanogacio, and a free throw from Brianna Williams (Brampton, Ontario/Southwest Academy/Hartford).

Senior guard Emily Florvil (Brooklyn, N.Y./Nazareth) recorded a steal and a fastbreak layup with just under a minute left on the clock to make it 45-44 in favor of the Seahawks heading into the final frame.

A three-pointer from Yanogacio with 4:48 left in the fourth tied the contest at 49-49, but Wagner scored the next five points via a three from Fabozzi and a layup from Keana Foz to pull back in front.

Roberts knocked down her third triple of the game with 16 seconds remaining to cut Le Moyne's deficit back to three, but Fabozzi drew a foul and drained two free throws with 10 seconds on the clock to secure the win for Wagner.

The Le Moyne women's basketball team will return to action Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. ET conference matchup at Chicago State.
