WOMEN’S LACROSSE FALLS TO VERMONT IN SEASON OPENER

Colonie, N.Y. – Lydia Doraz had three goals and three assists to lead the University of Vermont to an 18-7 victory over the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team on Friday at Afrim's Sports Park.

The teams traded goals over the opening three and one-half minutes of action. Le Moyne opened the scoring just 63 seconds into the contest as senior attacker Reagan McQuade (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) tallied her 22nd career goal. The Catamounts evened the score at one apiece at the 12:39 mark as Lauren Lefebvre netted her second goal of the season after taking a pass from Claire Adelhelm. The Dolphins regained the lead exactly one minute later on a goal by junior attacker Bella Sampo (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill).

Following seven minutes of scoreless action, Vermont score four times in the final 4:18 of the opening quarter. Caitlin Haggerty knotted the score with her fourth goal of the campaign off a pass from Karina Sethi with 4:18 to go. Two and one-half minutes later, Adelhelm finished off a feed from Lefebvre in an extra-player situation to put the Catamounts in front. Kendall Traveis doubled the lead 45 seconds later off a dish from Adelhelm. Maddie Erskine completed the scoring in the quarter with 32 seconds left with her first goal of the season.

The teams alternated goals in the second quarter. Vermont extended its run to five straight goals at the 10:40 mark as Meghan O'Connor scored her third goal of the season. Junior midfielder Jane Austenfeld (Lisle, N.Y./Whitney Point) snapped the run with 8:15 left by converting a free-position shot. Erskine answered back just 55 seconds later off a pass from Haggerty. Sophomore midfielder Julia Blakeslee (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) capped the scoring in the half by scoring off a free-position shot with 3:54 to go to get the Dolphins within 7-4.

Austenfeld scored off a feed from senior attacker Grace Detor (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) 1:49 into the third quarter to get the Dolphins within two.

After being held off the scoreboard for over 16 and one-half minutes, Vermont recorded the final four goals of the quarter. Out of a Vermont timeout, Doraz beat her defender to open space and fired in her fourth goal of the season with 5:42 left. She scored again at the 3:19 mark off a free-position shot. Just 58 seconds later, Lindsay Lefebvre tallied her third goal of the season off a pass from Adelhelm. O'Connor found the back of the net as time expired in the quarter for an 11-5 lead after receiving a feed from Doraz.

The teams traded goals in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter. Only 38 seconds into the period, Blakeslee tallied her second goal of the day. Traveis pushed the margin back to six with 13:09 left off a pass from Lauren Lefebvre. The Dolphins took advantage of a Vermont greed card to net their final goal of the day as freshman midfielder Carrie Bennett (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) scored her first career goal off a pass from sophomore attacker Emily Noel (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) with 12:01 left.

Vermont scored six times over the final 10 and one-half minutes to wrap up the scoring. Lauren Lefebvre started the run with 10:38 left off a pass from O'Connor. Erskine posted her third goal of the game with 9:22 remaining off a dish from Adelhelm. Just six seconds later, Adelhelm fired in her second goal of the game off a pass from Doraz. Lauren Lefebvre followed two minutes later with her third goal of the contest by finished off a feed from Doraz, who later made it a 10-goal game with 3:54 left after taking a pass from Haggerty. Lindsay Lefebvre concluded the game's scoring with her fourth of the season with 2:03 remaining.

Sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Manfredi (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) registered 14 saves, including seven in the third quarter, in her first career start. Anna Rosenberger tallied seven saves to earn her second victory of the season.

Le Moyne (0-1), which falls to 5-5 all-time against the Catamounts, is back in action next Saturday at Rutgers University at 3:00 p.m.
