RUTGERS REGISTERS WIN OVER WOMEN’S LACROSSE

Piscataway, N.J. – Victoria Goldrick recorded six points to lead Rutgers University to a 19-2 victory over the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon at SHI Stadium.

The Scarlet Knights jumped out to a 9-0 lead after the first quarter. Ava Chiarella started the scoring at the 13:34 mark with her fifth goal of the season. Samantha Swanovich followed at the 12:16 with her fifth goal of the year after taking a pass from Goldrick, who then converted a free-position shot with 11;21 left for her fifth goal of the season. Delainey Sutley also scored her fifth marker of the campaign with 10:41 to go off a dish from Goldrick. Payton Tini scored off a free-position shot with 9:37 left for her fifth tally of the year to force a Le Moyne timeout. Goldrick scored at the 8:48 mark after a pass from Lily Dixon, who then fed Hilary Elsner 89 seconds later for her third goal of the season. Sutley recorded an unassisted goal with 6:50 left. Goldrick scored the quarter's final goal with 2:52 remaining off a pass from Sutley.

Rutgers added five unanswered goals in the second quarter. Elsner netted the first goal off a feed from Goldrick with 12:57 left. Sutley scored at the 9:41 mark off a dish from Dixon. Caroline Ling scored her second goal of the season with 4:04 left after taking a feed from Alexa Corbin. Dixon converted a free-position shot with 1:43 remaining and Swanovich ended the half's scoring with five seconds left off a feed from Sutley.

Le Moyne broke through with the first two goals of the third quarter. Following a yellow card on the Scarlet Knights, freshman midfielder Carrie Bennett (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) earned a free-position shot and converted the attempt at the 11:05 mark for her second goal of the season. Junior attacker Alexa Strelick (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) followed with her first marker of the campaign at the 9:26 mark off a free-position shot.

The Scarlet Knights pushed their lead to 17-2 with the final three goals of the period. Tini scored the first goal with 6:54 left and Gianna Macrino netted her second goal of the season two minutes later with a free-position tally in an extra-player situation. Ling scored during another extra-player situation with 3:08 left off a pass from Elsner.

Rutgers scored the only two goals of the fourth quarter. Alex Popham scored her first goal of the season with 13:19 left and found the back of the net again with 3:47 left.

Sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Manfredi (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) recorded nine saves over 55:33 between the pipes in the setback. Lexie Coldiron turned away the only shot she faced in the first half to earn the win.

Le Moyne (0-2) heads to Colgate University on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
