MEN’S TENNIS WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT, 5-2, OVER MERCYHURST

Erie, Pa. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team won its third straight match over a Northeast Conference opponent, 5-2, over Mercyhurst University on Friday night at the Westwood Racquet Club.
 
The Dolphins swept the doubles competition for the first time this year to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Senior Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) and junior Adrian Daniel (Tel Aviv, Israel/Montana State) improved to 5-0 on the year with a 6-3 victory at the first position over Danylo Rekun and Sviatoslav Koliadynskyi. Freshmen Callum Matthew (Dorset, England/Highcliffe School) and Lorenzo Bortolaso (Bassano del Grappa, Italy/IT IS Enrico Fermi) won their third straight match at the second spot, 6-2, over Colm Schultz and David Mengher. Freshmen Jacob Maravillas (Bergenfield, N.J./Homeschooled) and Luke Hoyland (Sheffield, England/Birkdale School) won their second straight match at the third position, 6-4, over Mykhailo Polishchuk and Juan Carlos Hernandez Briones.

Le Moyne captured the top three spots of the singles competition as well as the fifth spot to take the victory. Hatton registered back-to-back 6-3 wins over Rekun at the top spot for his fourth straight win and the 57th of his career, one shy of the program record held by Tom Jarry. In his first match at the second position, Daniel defeated Lukas Cabue Valverde, 6-1, 7-5. Maravillas earned his first career dual match victory in the closest match of the night, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, over Schultz at the third spot. Hoyland was victorious at the fifth position over Polishchuk, 6-3, 6-1. Koliadynskyi got the Lakers on the scoreboard with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Matthew at the fourth spot. Mengher was a 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 winner at the sixth position over Bortolaso.
 
Le Moyne (4-2, 3-0 NEC), which has won four straight matches, is back in action on Saturday against Edinboro University at the Westwood Racquet Club in Erie.
