Erie, Pa. – Senior
Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) tied the program's career singles wins record, but the Le Moyne College men's tennis team was edged by Edinboro University, 4-3, on Saturday evening at the Westwood Racquet Club.
The Dolphins took a 1-0 lead in the match by sweeping the doubles competition for the second straight match. At the top spot, Hatton and junior
Adrian Daniel (Tel Aviv, Israel/Montana State) registered a 6-4 win over Fabricio Sosa Pons and Rocco Palombarini. Freshmen
Callum Matthew (Dorset, England/Highcliffe School) and
Lorenzo Bortolaso (Bassano del Grappa, Italy/IT IS Enrico Fermi) were also 6-4 winners at the second position over Stanislas Noel and Thomas Buchard. Freshmen
Jacob Maravillas (Bergenfield, N.J./Homeschooled) and
Luke Hoyland (Sheffield, England/Birkdale School) completed the sweep with another 6-4 victory over Liam Grassnickel and Nils Weskamp at the third spot.
Edinboro won four of the six matches in the singles competition to take the victory. At the second spot, Noel defeated Maravillas, 6-0, 7-5. Buchard followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win at the third position over Hoyland. In the longest match of the evening, Sosa Pons edged Bortolaso, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, at the fourth spot. Guillermo Rodriguez won at the sixth position over sophomore
Yegor Boyev (London, England/Ashcroft Technology Academy), 6-2, 6-3.
Hatton recorded back-to-back 6-2 wins at the top spot over Mathis Amsellem to tie Tom Jarry '23 for the most singles victories in the program's history with his 58th. Hatton earned his 58th win in his 75th decision, while Jarry reached the mark in his 79th. Freshman
Navya Verma (Patiala, India) earned his first collegiate dual match win, 6-3, 6-2, over Arsen Tabaldyev at the fifth spot.
Le Moyne (4-3), which had its four-match win streak snapped, is back in action against Siena College on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Elevate Fitness in DeWitt.
