SIENA BESTS WOMEN'S TENNIS, 4-3

Liverpool, N.Y. – The Siena College Saints registered a 4-3 victory over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team in non-conference action Saturday at the Elevate Fitness tennis courts in Liverpool.

The Dolphins won two of the three doubles matches to claim the first point of the day, but the Saints rallied, winning the first, second, fifth and sixth position singles matches to earn the victory.

Le Moyne's duo of Feriel Mahbouli (Tunis, Tunisia/Lycee 36/South Carolina State) and Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) improved to 6-1 this spring in first position dual match doubles competition with a 6-3 victory over Siena's Laia Giralt and Manuela Gomez, while senior Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) and junior Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) defeated Madeline De Faber-Schumacher and Reegan Mullaney at the third position by a score of 6-3 to clinch the point for the 'Phins.

In the first position singles match, Giralt recorded a 6-4, 6-4 win over Le Moyne freshman Charlotte Klein (Mellenthin, Germany/Education World Wide (Fla.)), and Andrea Vargas bested Mahbouli 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 2 singles match.

Casares defeated Mullaney 6-4, 6-2 to claim her third consecutive singles win in dual matches, while Fernando claimed a 6-3, 6-4 win over Zaara Omar in the fourth position to give Le Moyne its third point of the match.

In a tightly contested No. 5 singles match, Manuela Gomez outlasted Barona, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, and De Faber-Schumaker clinched the victory for Siena with a 7-6 (10-8), 7-5 win over Alvarez.

The Le Moyne women's tennis team will return to action Sunday evening against Providence College at the Elevate Fitness tennis courts in DeWitt.
