CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE RALLIES FOR 84-75 WIN OVER MEN’S BASKETBALL

New Britain, Conn. – Jayden Brown scored 14 second-half points to lead Central Connecticut State University to an 84-75 come-from-behind victory over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team in Northeast Conference action on Thursday night at Detrick Gymnasium.

Sophomore guard AJ Dancler (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) led all scorers in the game with 25 points, including 13 in the first half, to go with four rebounds, four assists and three steals. Redshirt sophomore forward Nate Fouts (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles/Kimball Union Academy) recorded career-highs of 22 points, including 15 in the first half, and seven assists, while adding seven rebounds.

Brown finished the game with 16 points and grabbed four rebounds. Devin Haid led the Blue Devils with 18 points, including 11 in the first half, while adding nine rebounds and six assists. Abdul Momoh recorded 13 points, five rebounds and three blocks. Jordan Jones, an NEC player of the year candidate, had 11 points and six assists.

Le Moyne (9-21, 4-11 NEC) closes out the regular season on Saturday at Stonehill College at 4:30 p.m. The Dolphins will claim the seventh seed (and face second-seeded LIU) in next week's NEC Tournament with a win and a Chicago State loss at Saint Francis. They will be the eighth seed (and play Central Connecticut State) with a loss or a Chicago State win.

After the teams traded baskets over the opening two minutes of the game, the Dolphins tallied 10 straight points to take a 15-7 lead with 13:02 to go. Fouts started the run with a three-pointer and Dancler capped it with three straight baskets.

The Blue Devils countered with nine of the next 12 points to cut their deficit to two. Jones had a conventional three-point play and then Max Frazier had a pair of baskets at the rim around a lay-up by Jones.

Following another Jones three-point play to make it a 20-19 game, the Dolphins scored 15 of the next 20 points to take their first double-digit lead. Fifth-year guard Darrick Jones Jr. (Richmond, Va./Oak Hill Academy/Towson) ignited the run with a three-pointer, Dancler made a jumper, Fouts drilled a three-pointer and had a tip-in, Dancler made two free throws and then redshirt freshman Deng Garang (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) drained a three-pointer for a 35-24 lead with 4:46 left.

After the teams alternated points over the next three and one-half minutes, the Blue Devils scored the final five of the half. Haid made a three-pointer with 50 seconds left and then Momoh converted a jumper in the paint with seven seconds to go as the Blue Devils cut Le Moyne's lead to 43-37 at halftime.

Following back and forth action over the initial two and one-half minutes of the second half, CCSU scored five straight points to even the score at 49. Jones made a three-pointer and Haid hit a jumper to tie the score.

Le Moyne regained the lead with 15:32 left on a Dancler dunk in transition and then Dancler drained a three-pointer with 14:14 left.

The Blue Devils responded with a trio of three-pointers to take the lead for good. Jones made the first, Darin Smith, Jr. put his team up with the second and then Joe Ostrowsky drained a three-pointer off a steal to force a Le Moyne timeout with 12:03 left.

CCSU's lead was either two or four over the next five minutes as the teams traded baskets. After the under-8 media timeout with 7:02 left, Davonte Sweatman made a fast-break lay-up and Brown registered a conventional three-point play to give the Blue Devils their first nine-point lead.

Fouts buried a three-pointer with 3:47 left to pull the Dolphins within four, 71-67, but Hair, Brown and Ostrowsky made three-pointers of their own on consecutive possessions to put the game away.

Brown gave CCSU its largest lead of the game with a dunk with 49 seconds left, but Dancler and senior forward Ocypher Owens (Orlando, Fla./Orlando Christian Prep/Indian River State) drained three-pointers to deliver the final score.
