MEN’S BASKETBALL’S RALLY COMES UP SHORT AT SAINT FRANCIS

Loretto, Pa. – Riley Parker led five players in double figures as Saint Francis University held on for an 86-78 victory over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team in Northeast Conference action on Thursday night at DeGol Arena.

Sophomore guard AJ Dancler (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) led the Dolphins with 22 points, 17 of which came in the second half, while dishing out seven assists. Graduate student guard Robby Carmody (Mars, Pa./Mars Area/Notre Dame/Mercer) tallied a career-high 21 points, including 12 in the first half, to go with three rebounds and two steals. Redshirt junior forward Dwayne Koroma (Berlin, Germany/Bishop Walsh (Md.)/Iona/Salt Lake C.C./UT Arlington) posted 15 points, including 11 in the second half, nine rebounds (eight in the second half), three steals and two assists.

Parker tallied 18 points, while adding four rebounds and two steals. Daemar Kelly turned in 14 points, three rebounds and a pair of steals. Juan Cranford, Jr. recorded 13 points, five assists and five rebounds, while Chris Moncrief had 12 points, six assists and five rebounds. Bobby Rosenberger posted 10 points off the bench.

The teams went back and forth over the opening eight minutes of the game, with the lead changing hands three times, the last of which came on a lay-up by graduate student guard Will Amica (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/UAlbany) to put the Dolphins in front 13-12.

Out of a timeout, the Red Flash ran off 12 straight points over 4:23 to take control of the game. Six different Saint Francis players scored in the span.

Koroma made a lay-up with 7:04 left to snap the run and Le Moyne's scoring drought of 5:12, but Saint Francis countered with eight of the next nine points to take a 32-16 advantage. Jeremy Clayville and Rosenberger bookended the span with three-pointers.

Le Moyne cut its deficit to 10 with eight of the next 10 points. Koroma and Carmody each made shots and then redshirt freshman guard Deng Garang (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) had a lay-up and a fast-break dunk in about 30 seconds to pull the Dolphins within 34-24 with 2:12 left.

After the teams split the next 13 points, the Red Flash scored four points in the final two seconds to take a 45-30 lead into halftime. Parker made two free throws with 2.2 seconds left and then Aidan Harris made a lay-up at the buzzer.

After Cranford, Jr. opened the second half with a three-pointer, Saint Francis' lead bounced between 14 and 18 points over the first 10 minutes of the stanza.

Dancler had a fast-break dunk off a steal with 9:50 remaining in the game to get the Dolphins within 13 for the first time in the half, but the Red Flash scored four points in 13 seconds to push their margin back to 17.

The Red Flash maintained a lead between 13 and 16 over the next three and one-half minutes.

Following a pair of free throws by Wisler Sanon to push the margin to 75-59 with 5:40 left, the Dolphins scored 15 of the next 18 points to close within just four points with 2:10 to play. Carmody started the run with a three-pointer, Koroma made a lay-up and then Dancler hit two free throws to get the Dolphins within single digits. Following three Saint Francis free throws around a Le Moyne basket, Dancler made a jumper, Koroma had a tip-in and then Carmody made two foul shots to get the Dolphins within 78-74.

Saint Francis went 8-for-8 from the foul line over the final 1:18 to close the game out.

Le Moyne (7-17, 2-7 NEC) wraps up its trip to Pennsylvania on Saturday at Mercyhurst University at 3:00 p.m.
