Syracuse, N.Y. – Grace Dobrzynski recorded four points to lead Siena College to a 9-8 win over the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team on Wednesday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.
Siena scored twice in the opening 65 seconds on free-position shots. Lauren O'Hagan tallied her third goal of the season at the 14:06 mark and then Dobrzynski converted her eighth goal of the year 11 seconds later.
Junior attacker
Bella Sampo (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) cut Le Moyne's deficit in half 1:42 later with a free-position goal of her own for her third tally of the season.
Following almost 10 and one-half minutes of scoreless action, sophomore midfielder
Maddi Barney (Lorraine, N.Y./South Jefferson) recorded her fifth goal of the year after collecting a pass from sophomore attacker
Emily Noel (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) in a player-up situation.
The Saints regained the lead with 47 seconds left as Koehler Nieman posted her third goal of the year.
Dobrzynski scored the only goal of the second quarter at the 13:56 mark during an extra-player situation.
Le Moyne scored the first two goals of the third quarter to knot the score at four apiece. Senior attacker
Grace Detor (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) netted the first goal at the 14:16 mark after receiving a pass from Barney. Just over two minutes later, freshman midfielder
Carrie Bennett (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) converted a free-position shot of her own in a player-up situation to even the score at four with 12:00 left.
Meghan Decker gave the lead back to the Saints with 4:06 remaining in the third quarter.
Sophomore midfielder
Julia Blakeslee (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) tied the score again with 1:28 left by finishing off a pass from Barney.
The Saints took a 6-5 lead into the final quarter as Jenna Pollicino scored off a feed from Nieman with 21 seconds left for her fourth goal of the season.
Blakeslee tied the score for the final time with her sixth goal of the campaign with 11:02 remaining in the game.
Siena scored twice in 39 seconds to take the lead for good. Cassidy Bonura put the Saints in front at the 10:33 mark with her second goal of the year. Kelly Logue pushed the margin to two with 9:54 remaining with her 10th marker of the season.
Le Moyne got one goal back with 8:09 left as senior attacker
Reagan McQuade (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) fired in her team-best sixth goal of the season.
Dobrzynski tallied the eventual game-winning goal with 4:53 to play.
After Siena had two shots saved, junior attacker
Alexa Strelick (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) netted her third goal of the campaign with 1:20 remaining to get the Dolphins within one.
Siena won the ensuing draw control, the seventh in a row in the quarter for the Saints, but Barney caused a turnover and scooped up the loose ball. Following a Le Moyne timeout, the Dolphins cleared the ball and worked it around looking for a shot to tie the score, but were unable to get a shot off before time expired.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Amanda Manfredi (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) made seven saves in the loss for the Dolphins, including three in the fourth quarter. McAllister Salter earned the win after making two saves (against four goals) in 18:22 of relief.
Le Moyne (1-6) opens Northeast Conference action on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Delaware State.
