BASEBALL TAKES OPENER AT UMES, 7-2

Salisbury, Md. – The Le Moyne College baseball team registered a 7-2 Northeast Conference victory over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks on Friday at UMES' Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex in the opening contest of a three-game series.

Le Moyne senior right-handed starting pitcher Bobby McBride (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster/UConn/Coastal Carolina) earned his first career victory on the mound after limiting the Hawks to one hit, one run and two walks with six strikeouts in a career-high 6.0 innings of work.

Senior right-hander Billy Hoffacker (Erial, N.J./Timber Creek/Rowan College of South Jersey) tossed 3.0 innings in relief with four strikeouts, three hits and zero earned runs allowed to collect his first save of the season.

Freshman infielder Tim Denet (West Harrison, N.Y./Iona Prep) tallied a season-high three runs batted in with the help of his team-leading third home run of the season, a two-run shot, in the top of the ninth and added a double in the second to register his first career game with multiple extra-base hits.

Sophomore infielder Ethan Farina (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa/Saint Rose) smashed a solo home run, his first as a Dolphin and the eighth of his career, in the sixth and scored a game-high two runs.

Freshman infielder Dominick Russ (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) recorded two hits and a run for Le Moyne, while junior left fielder Tyler Campbell (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.), freshman Derek Diaz (White Plains, N.Y./Iona Prep), and junior outfielder Paulie Goodness (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon/Finger Lakes Community College) added a hit and a run each.

McBride was perfect his first time through the UMES lineup, retiring the first nine hitters in order. He hit a batter in the bottom of the fourth, but carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the sixth before Maryland Eastern Shore redshirt-junior infielder Ansel Carson lifted a solo home run over the right field wall.

Prior to the home run, the Dolphins established a 5-0 lead with four runs in the top of the fifth, and one in the sixth. Diaz, Goodness, Farina and Russ each scored unearned runs during the fifth, with Denet providing the lone RBI in the inning on a bases loaded walk.

Farina's solo home run with one out in the sixth extended the Le Moyne lead to 5-0.

Hoffacker recorded two strikeouts and stranded runners on second and third in the bottom of the eighth, then Denet drove in Campbell with a two-run home run in the ninth to give the Dolphins a 7-1 advantage.

UMES added an unearned run in the ninth, but Hoffacker stranded a runner on second with three consecutive outs to close out the win.

The Dolphins and the Hawks will conclude their series on Saturday, with a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m.
