Philadelphia, Pa. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team dropped a non-conference match at Saint Joseph's University on Saturday by a score of 4-3 at the SJU Tennis Complex.
The Dolphins won two of the three doubles matches to claim the first point of the day, but the Hawks rallied in singles competition, winning four of the six matches to register the 4-3 win.
Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) and
Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) recorded a 6-1 win over Ana Ocasio and Claudia Perez-Garcia in the No. 3 doubles match, while
Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) and
Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) delivered a 6-2 win over Charlotte Kordonowy and Addison Melfi in the second position to secure the first point for Le Moyne, while SJU's Victoria Tracey and Wiktoria Czerny claimed a 5-4 win over
Feriel Mahbouli (Tunis, Tunisia/Lycee 36/South Carolina State) and
Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) in the first position.
Barona recorded a 7-5, 6-0 win over Ocasio in the No. 5 singles match, and Alvarez registered a 6-3, 6-4 win over Perez-Garcia in the sixth position.
Tracey bested Mahbouli 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match, Fernando fell to Czerny 1-6, 2-6 in the second position, Kordonowy bested Le Moyne freshman
Charlotte Klein (Mellenthin, Germany/Education World Wide (Fla.)) in the third position, and Melfi outlasted Casares in the fourth position by a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The Le Moyne women's tennis team will return to action Sunday with a match at Coppin State University.
