Spartanburg, S.C. – The Wofford College Terriers completed a sweep of the Le Moyne College baseball team with an 11-8 victory over the Dolphins Sunday afternoon at Wofford's Russell C. King Field.
Junior outfielder
Tyler Campbell (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) launched his first home run of the season, a three-run shot, and finished the contest with a career-high tying four RBIs, the most he has recorded in a game as a Dolphin.
Senior catcher
Benji Ries (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) tallied two hits, a walk and three runs scored for the Dolphins, while sophomore infielder
Mike Whelehan (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) added two hits and a run.
Freshmen infielders
Tim Denet (West Harrison, N.Y./Iona Prep) and
Dominick Russ (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) and senior outfielder Wyatt each produced one RBI during a setback.
Wofford third baseman James Layman led the Terriers with a game-high five RBIs via a two-RBI single in the second that tied the game at 3-3, and a three-RBI triple in the fifth that gave the Terriers a 10-7 advantage.
Designated hitter Hunter Hendon contributed two hits, an RBI and two runs to the Wofford cause, while center fielder Tyler Bak scored a team-high three runs, and left fielder Andrew Mannelly added one hit, one walk, one RBI and two runs scored.
Wofford senior left-handed starting pitcher Dylan Rhadans tallied eight strikeouts with six runs allowed through the first innings, then sophomore left-hander Kenny Michaels was credited with the victory after recording five strikeouts with two hits and two runs allowed in 3.0 innings of work. Junior right-hander Champ Davis earned his second save of the season after conceding one hit, zero walks and zero runs with three strikeouts in the final 2.0 innings.
Le Moyne redshirt-sophomore right-hander
AJ Petraitis (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) completed 4.2 innings of work with seven runs allowed in his second start of the season. Redshirt-senior right-hander
Billy Hoffacker (Erial, N.J./Timber Creek/Rowan College of South Jersey) received the loss after registering four strikeouts with three hits and four runs allowed in 2.0 innings in relief.
Senior left-hander
Jacob Crystal (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) tossed 1.1 scoreless innings in relief for the 'Phins.
The Le Moyne College baseball team will begin Northeast Conference play with a three-game series at FDU. The Dolphins and the Knights will play their NEC opener Friday at 3:00 p.m., followed by game two on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., with the series finale slated for Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
