UMASS LOWELL TAKES DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST BASEBALL

Lowell, Mass. – The Le Moyne College baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at UMass Lowell on Saturday.

The River Hawks claimed a 13-6 win in the opening contest of the three-game series, then UML scored six runs in the final three innings in the nightcap to claim a 9-4 win and secure the series victory. The Dolphins and the River Hawks will conclude the series with a single contest on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.

Game One:
Le Moyne took a 2-0 lead in the opening inning in game one, but UMass Lowell tallied four runs in the fourth and six in the fifth to open a commanding lead.

Junior outfielder Tyler Campbell (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) recorded three hits, two RBIs, one run and one walk for the Dolphins, while sophomore infielder Mike Whelehan (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) drove in two runs, and senior outfielder Wyatt Patchett (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) added two hits and one run.

For the River Hawks, shortstop Zachary Scott, and designated hitter Brandon Fish both drove in three runs, while center fielder Alex Luccini contributed a single, a double, a home run, three runs scored, two RBIs, one walk and a stolen base.

In his fifth start of the season, senior right-hander Bobby McBride (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster/UConn/Coastal Carolina) recorded two strikeouts with two hits, zero walks and zero runs allowed in 2.0 innings of work. Redshirt-junior right-hander Steven Freer (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) tossed a career-high 3.1 innings in relief.

UML starting pitcher Miles Cota recorded three strikeouts with one hit, four walks and two runs allowed in 4.0 innings, then Jake LeFrancois earned his first win of the season after tossing 1.2 innings in relief with four strikeouts. Kevin Zarnoch Jr. earned the save for UMass Lowell after pitching the final 3.0 innings with four hits, one walk and three runs allowed with three strikeouts.

Game Two:
UMass Lowell scored one run in each of the first three innings to open up a 3-0 lead, but Le Moyne responded with one run in each of the next three innings to tie the contest midway through the sixth. UML went back ahead with three runs in the bottom half of the sixth, followed by one in the seventh and two in the eighth.

Campbell added two doubles and two RBIs during the nightcap, Patchett provided two hits and one run, and junior infielder Adam Sullivan (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) added one hit, one walk, one run and one RBI during the setback.

Luccini, right fielder Carlos Martinez and left fielder River Hart each recorded three hits for UML in game two, while Luccini and designated hitter Spencer Aubin drove in two runs each.

UMass Lowell starting pitcher Brendan Holland registered six strikeouts in 5.0 innings, then Dylan Bedder collected the win after allowing one run in relief. Nick Dirito pitched the final 3.0 innings for the River Hawks to record the save.
