Buffalo, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College baseball team recorded a 17-9 loss at Canisius University Tuesday in their first midweek game of the season.
The Dolphins established a 9-6 lead after four innings, but the Griffs tallied three runs in the sixth, five in the seventh and three in the eighth to claim the win in their home opener.
Canisius infielders JC Spinosa and Trent Rumley, and designated hitter Mason Cisco each tallied four RBIs for the Griffs, while outfielder Owen Silliman scored a game-high four runs to go along with two hits, two walks and three RBIs.
For the second consecutive game, sophomore outfielder
Jack Cannon (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) launched a three-run home run, while sophomore infielder
Ethan Farina (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa/Saint Rose) registered a team-high three hits in addition to two runs and two RBIs.
Junior outfielder
Tyler Campbell (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) added two hits, one run and two RBIs, while freshman infielder
Dominick Russ (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) reached base four times with three walks and a base hit and scored two runs.
Le Moyne redshirt-senior right-hander
Billy Hoffacker (Erial, N.J./Timber Creek/Rowan College of South Jersey) made his first start of the season on the mound for the 'Phins, allowing one earned run with one strikeout in 2.0 innings of work.
Freshman right-handed pitcher
Nathan Hiscox (Canton, Conn./Canton) made his collegiate debut during the setback, tossing one inning in relief.
Canisius sophomore pitcher Joe LoPinto was credited with the win after tossing a scoreless top of the seventh, as Canisius took the lead for good in the bottom of the frame.
Le Moyne will resume NEC play this weekend when they host Norfolk State for a three-game series at Dick Rockwell Field.
