Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team will play its first game in the state of Michigan on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. against the University of Detroit Mercy.
The Dolphins and Titans will be meeting for the first time. So far this season, they have not played any common opponents.
Le Moyne is 5-3 on the year, including 2-0 in NEC play, and is coming off an 11-6 victory over Cleveland State last Tuesday. Freshman midfielder tallied four points on two goals and two assists to lead the Dolphins.
Zachary Delaney,
Thomas Berry and
Zack Crosby also scored two goals and
Ethan Loun had one goal and one assist. Sophomore
Lucas Winger tallied 16 saves between the pipes.
On the season, Berry leads six Dolphins with double-digit points with 16 on 11 goals and five assists. Delaney has a team-best 12 goals and three assists for 15 points, while senior
Ryan Eisenmann has 10 goals and four assists for his 14 points and Loun has 14 points on eight goals and six assists. McDermott leads the team in assists with seven and has five goals for 12 points, while junior
Owen Wilson rounds out the sextet with 11 points on nine goals and two assists. Senior
Sam Getty has taken almost 80-percent of the team's faceoffs and has won 69 of 136 attempts (.507) and has a team-best 30 ground balls. Graduate student short-stick defensive midfielders
Dom DelPonte and
Jack Sullivan lead the defense with five caused turnovers each, while senior
Billy Savage leads defenders with 10 ground balls. Since taking over between the pipes midway through the Hobart game, Winger has 53 saves, a .640 save percentage and a 7.94 goals against average.
The Titans, who were picked to finish sixth in the NEC preseason coaches poll, are 1-5 on the year just over halfway through their season, including 0-2 in NEC action. They are coming off a 14-9 loss at LIU last Saturday. Chase Mahabir (three goals and one assist) and Harold Skinner (two goals and two assists) each recorded four points to lead Detroit Mercy in the setback.
Detroit Mercy opened the season with road losses to Ohio State, Marquette and Bellarmine. The Titans opened March by picking up their first win of the season at Hampton. They opened NEC action with losses to Robert Morris (19-4) and LIU.
The Titans are led offensively by Mahabir, who has 12 points on seven goals and five assists. Skinner has eight points on five goals and three assists, while Aidan Bishop has seven points on five goals and two assists. Canton Lanham has taken a majority of the team's faceoffs, winning 39 of 89 draws (.438). Kyle Grant leads the team with 11 caused turnovers and 21 ground balls. Ryan Richters has played 349 of 360 minutes between the pipes and has a 13.57 goals against average, 86 saves and a .521 save percentage.
Following Saturday's contest, Le Moyne is next in action at home against Wagner on April 5 at 12:00 p.m.
