Providence, R.I. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team closed out its non-conference road schedule with a 4-0 setback to Brown University on Sunday morning at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Brown, which improved to 16-0 on the year at home, took a 1-0 lead in the match by claiming the point in the doubles competition. The teams split the first two positions with 6-1 scores. Senior
Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) and junior
Adrian Daniel (Tel Aviv, Israel/Montana State) won their fourth straight match and 12th consecutive decision at the first spot over Noah Hernandez and Lukas Phimvongsa, while Alex Finkelstein and Zander Bravo defeated freshmen
Luke Hoyland (Sheffield, England/Birkdale School) and
Lorenzo Bortolaso (Bassano del Grappa, Italy/IT IS Enrico Fermi) and the second position. James Lian and Sam Feldman clinched the point with a 6-2 victory at the third spot over graduate student
Bernardo Teixeira (Porto, Portugal/Escola Secundária Fontes Pereira de Mel/University of Porto/Delaware) and freshman
Jacob Maravillas (Bergenfield, N.J./Homeschooled).
The Bears won the first three singles matches to finish to close out the victory. At the second spot, Oliver Worth recorded back-to-back scores of 6-4 over Daniel. Hernandez tallied a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 win at the third position over Teixeira. Phimvongsa clinched the victory with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 win at the fourth spot over Hoyland. Hatton and Finkelstein each won a set by a 6-4 score, but their match was abandoned when Brown earned its fourth point. The matches at the fifth and sixth positions were abandoned as well with no scores.
Le Moyne (6-9) is back in action on Saturday at Elevate Fitness in DeWitt at 7:00 p.m. against NEC foe LIU.
