TOP-SEEDED CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE REGISTERS 86-67 WIN OVER MEN’S BASKETBALL IN NEC QUARTERFINALS

New Britain, Conn. – Jaelen McGlone had 18 points off the bench to lead top-seeded Central Connecticut State University to an 86-67 victory over the eighth-seeded Le Moyne College men's basketball team in the Northeast Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Wednesday night at Detrick Gymnasium.

Redshirt junior forward Dwayne Koroma (Berlin, Germany/Bishop Walsh (Md.)/Iona/Salt Lake C.C./UT Arlington) led all scorers with a career-high 24 points, including 12 in each half, while grabbing seven rebounds and posting two steals. Sophomore guard AJ Dancler (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) recorded all 15 of his points in the first half, while adding seven rebounds and a pair of assists. Redshirt sophomore forward Nate Fouts (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles/Kimball Union Academy) turned in 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

McGlone scored 11 of his career-high point total in the first half, while adding five rebounds and two steals. NEC Player of the Year Jordan Jones recorded 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Devin Haid, an all-NEC Second Team selection, posted 14 points, four rebounds and three assists. Davonte Sweatman tallied 10 points and three assists.

The teams went back and forth over the opening four and one-half minutes as the score was tied four times and the Dolphins took a 13-11 lead on a three-pointer by fifth-year guard Darrick Jones Jr. (Richmond, Va./Oak Hill/Towson) with 15:21 left.

The Blue Devils, who have won a nation-best 13 straight games, followed with nine straight points in 80 seconds to take the lead for good. Joe Ostrowsky buried a pair of three-pointers in the stretch around one by Jayden Brown.

After Le Moyne cut its deficit to four on a lay-up by Koroma, Jones made a jumper and then Darin Smith, Jr. and McGlone drilled three-pointers for a 28-16 lead with 11:04 to go.

Following baskets by Koroma and Dancler, the Blue Devils scored nine in a row for a 37-20 lead with 5:46 left. Sweatman made two free throws and a lay-up, Ostrowsky drained a three-pointer and then Abdul Momoh had a dunk off a steal.

Koroma scored six straight points around a three-pointer by Haid to get the Dolphins within 40-26 with 3:49 left.

The Blue Devils answered with three three-pointers in 72 seconds around a Dancler jumper to take a 49-28 lead with 2:23 to go. McGlone buried a pair of three-pointers around the Dancler basket and then Jones connected on a three-pointer to force a Le Moyne timeout.

The Dolphins closed out the half with a 7-2 run to get within 51-35 at halftime. Graduate student guard Robby Carmody (Mars, Pa./Mars Area/Notre Dame/Mercer) made a free throw, Koroma had a tip-in, graduate student guard Will Amica (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/UAlbany) scored in the paint and then Dancler made two foul shots.

Le Moyne extended its run to 15-2 with the first eight points of the second half to get within 51-43 with 16:23 remaining. Koroma made a lay-up and then Fouts and Jones Jr. drilled three-pointers.

After the Blue Devils were scoreless over the opening six minutes of the second half, they rattled off 13 of the next 15 points over three and one-half minutes. McGlone and Jones scored off steals, Sweatman made a lay-up and two free throws, Haid converted three free throws and then McGlone made a lay-up for a 64-45 lead with 10:13 left.

Koroma scored seven points around two Sweatman free throws to get the Dolphins within 14 for the final time with 8:53 left, but Central Connecticut State scored answered with a 7-1 run to take its first 20-point lead. Jones made two foul shots, McGlone hit a three-pointer (CCSU's only one of the second half after 11 in the first half) and then Jones made a lay-up with 6:56 left.

Fouts scored five points around a Momoh free throw and then Amica made a jumper and junior guard Zek Tekin (Istanbul, Turkey/Ozel Esenkent Okaynus Anadolu Lisesi/Siena) converted a free throw as the Dolphins made one final push.

After Koroma made a lay-up to get the Dolphins within 15 for the final time with 3:17 left, Haid had two dunks in 13 seconds and then Jones made two free throws for an 86-66 lead.

Redshirt sophomore guard Kaelin Thomas (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic) made a free throw with 45 seconds left for the Dolphins' final point of the season.
