CANISIUS RECORDS WIN OVER WOMEN’S LACROSSE

Syracuse, N.Y. – Maggie Tifft scored four goals to lead Canisius University to a 20-8 victory over the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team on Wednesday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

The Golden Griffins scored the opening two goals of the game. Hailey Rooney got the scoring started at the 10:14 mark with her fourth goal of the season off a pass from Megan Previdi. Less than 90 seconds later, Katie Adams finished off a pass from Lauren Matyka for her third tally of the year.

Sophomore midfielder Maddi Barney (Lorraine, N.Y./South Jefferson) got the Dolphins on the scoreboard with 7:10 remaining in the quarter.

Canisius scored twice in 81 seconds to take a 4-1 lead. Maddie Fitzgerald netted her 12th goal of the season with 6:46 to go. Adams followed with a free-position goal at the 5:25 mark.

Junior midfielder Sara Hunter (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) capped the scoring in the quarter with 21 seconds left off a pass from sophomore attacker Emily Noel (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius).

Tifft, whose dad Robert '94 is a member of the Gold Wave Hall of Fame, extended the lead to 5-2 at the 8:08 mark of the second quarter off a feed from Brooke Hippert.

Barney recorded her second goal of the contest with 6:42 left off a dish from Noel.

The Golden Griffins tallied the final three goals of the half to take an 8-3 lead into the intermission. Fitzgerald started the push with 4:52 left by scoring off a free-position shot in an extra-player situation. Matyka followed at the 3:14 mark with a free-position goal of her own. Meg Hiltz then scored with 1:24 remaining off a pass from Taylor Wolf.

Sophomore midfielder Julia Blakeslee (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) scored the first goal of the third quarter with 13:55 left off a feed from junior attacker Bella Sampo (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill).

Canisius registered the next four goals. Hiltz scored with 10:44 left off a pass from Fitzgerald, who then scored in an extra-player situation with 8:34 left. Mia Estelle scored her first goal of the day with 8:07 remaining off a free-position shot. Tifft capped the spurt with 7:19 to go after receiving a pass from Previdi.

The Dolphins cut into their deficit with the next two goals. Hunter found the back of the net with 5:45 left off a feed from Sampo. Senior attacker Reagan McQuade (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) posted her fifth goal of the season with 4:08 remaining off a pass from senior attacker Haley Emmick (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield).

Matyka pushed the lead back to seven with 1:21 left off a dish from Rooney, but Hunter answered 59 seconds later with her third goal of the game after taking a pass from Emmick.

Tifft scored twice in the last 13 seconds of the quarter. She won the draw after Hunter's goal and raced up field to net her ninth goal of the season with 13 seconds left. She then scored at the buzzer for a 15-7 lead.

Wolf opened the scoring in the fourth quarter with her first goal of the season after taking a pass in transition from Alexandra Czepukaitis.

Emmick scored Le Moyne's final goal of the game with 8:11 left by converting a free-position shot.

Canisius scored the final four goals of the game. Estelle scored her fourth goal of the year with 7:01 left. Rooney scored 42 seconds later off a pass from Adams. Hippert tallied her second goal of the season with 1:18 left and then Mya Zeller ended the game's scoring with her first of the year with 12 seconds left.

Sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Manfredi (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) registered 14 saves, including four in each of the first and third quarters, in the setback. Olivia Licardi made eight saves to earn her second win of the year.

Le Moyne (1-4) is back in action on Saturday at the University of Massachusetts Lowell at 12:00 p.m.
