WOMEN'S TENNIS DEFEATED BY BINGHAMTON, 4-3

Binghamton, N.Y. – The Binghamton University Bearcats registered a 4-3 NEC victory over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team at the Lane-Starke Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon, avenging a 5-2 loss against the Dolphins earlier this season.

Binghamton captured the first point of the day after claiming two of the three doubles matches. Le Moyne's Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) and Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) recorded a 6-1 win over Samantha Jaros and Maria Pereira in the third position, but Loren Cuomo and Nitya Vas collected a 6-2 win over Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) and Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) in No. 2 doubles, and Binghamton's duo of Clara Arbeloa Lopez and Caterina Casadei clinched the point with a 7-6 (9-7) win over Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) and Feriel Mahbouli (Tunis, Tunisia/Lycee 36/South Carolina State) in the first position.

Fernando added a point for Le Moyne with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Arbeloa Lopez in the No. 3 singles match, while Barona defeated Vyas 6-4, 6-4 in the fifth position.

Sophomore Lilia Raiss (Temara, Morocco/Descartes) moved Le Moyne one point away from clinching the match after registering a 6-3, 6-4 win over Kayla Castellano in the No. 6 singles match, but Binghamton rallied to salvage the conference win.

Cuomo downed Mahbouli in the first position, 6-1, 7-6 (7-1), Jaros claimed a 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 victory over Casares in the third position, and Casadei outlasted freshman Charlotte Klein (Mellenthin, Germany/Education World Wide (Fla.)) in the second position by a score of 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.

The Le Moyne women's tennis team dropped to 4-2 in NEC action following the loss, while Binghamton improved to 1-4 against conference competition.

Raiss claimed her first singles win in conference action during the match, while Barona improved to 5-1 in conference singles.

The duo of Barona and Casares has now won five consecutive doubles matches.

The Dolphins will return to action on March 15 with a 1:00 p.m. match at Saint Joseph's.
