Syracuse, N.Y. – The Colgate University Raiders registered a 5-2 win over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team in non-conference action Saturday at Drumlins.
Le Moyne won two of the three doubles matches to claim the first point of the day, but the Raiders responded with five singles victories to win the match.
Colgate's Amelia Galin and Sophia Montero bested graduate student
Feriel Mahbouli (Tunis, Tunisia/Lycee 36/South Carolina State) and sophomore
Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) in No. 1 doubles by a score of 6-2. Juniors
Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) and
Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) claimed a 6-2 win over Carina Cristobal and Eliza Podlas in the second position, while junior
Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) and senior
Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) recorded a 6-3 win over Addie Eklund and Rebecca Hess in the third position.
Galin improved to 2-0 on the day with a 6-0, 6-2 win over freshman
Charlotte Klein (Mellenthin, Germany/Education World Wide (Fla.)) in the No. 1 singles match, while Montero recorded a 6-0, 6-2 win over Mahbouli in the second position.
Eklund defeated Fernando in a tightly contested No. 3 singles match by a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, and Cristobal bested Casares, 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) in the fourth position.
Hess registered a 6-3, 6-4 win over Barona in the No. 5 singles match.
Alvarez captured Le Moyne's lone single point with an 8-3 win over Gigi Bohan in the sixth position.
Le Moyne will return to action on Sunday with a 3:00 p.m. NEC match at Binghamton University.
