DeWitt, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team registered a 5-0 victory over Lafayette College on Saturday night at Elevate Fitness.
The Dolphins won the point in the doubles competition for the 11th time. Senior
Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) and freshman
Callum Matthew (Dorset, England/Highcliffe School) got the first win, 6-1, at the top spot over Arman Ganchi and Nick McKenzie. Jake Magnusson and Sam Gelber won at the second position, 6-3, over freshmen
Luke Hoyland (Sheffield, England/Birkdale School) and
Lorenzo Bortolaso (Bassano del Grappa, Italy/IT IS Enrico Fermi) to even it at one apiece. Graduate student
Bernardo Teixeira (Porto, Portugal/Escola Secundária Fontes Pereira de Mel/University of Porto/Delaware) and freshman
Jacob Maravillas (Bergenfield, N.J./Homeschooled) clinched the point with a 7-6 (7-1) win at the third spot over Aidan Mahaffey and William Woolley.
The Dolphins won all four matches to finish in the singles competition. Hatton won his 13th straight match, 6-1, 6-3, over Ganchi at the top spot. Hoyland recorded a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Derrin Lerner at the third spot. Freshman
Navya Verma (Patiala, India) defeated Magnusson at the fourth position with back-to-back scores of 6-2. Senior
Xavier Branagan (Wollstonecraft, Australia/St. Aloysius' College) tallied a 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) victory at the sixth spot over Owen Studdiford.
Teixeira had a 1-0 lead over McKenzie at the second position when the match was clinched, while Bortolaso and Mahaffey hadn't started yet at the fifth spot.
Le Moyne (8-10), which honored Hatton, Teixeira and Branagan prior to the match for their contributions to the program, closes out the regular season on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. against St. Bonaventure at Elevate Fitness in DeWitt.
