MEN’S TENNIS CLOSES OUT REGULAR SEASON WITH 4-2 WIN OVER ST. BONAVENTURE

DeWitt, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team closed out its regular season on Sunday afternoon with a 4-2 victory over St. Bonaventure University at Elevate Fitness.
 
The Dolphins jumped out to a 1-0 lead by collecting the point in the doubles competition. Graduate student Bernardo Teixeira (Porto, Portugal/Escola Secundária Fontes Pereira de Mel/University of Porto/Delaware) and freshman Jacob Maravillas (Bergenfield, N.J./Homeschooled) earned the first win, 6-0, over Arjun Pindiprolu and Luke Ollivierre at the third spot. Senior Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) and freshman Callum Matthew (Dorset, England/Highcliffe School) clinched the point with a 6-4 win at the top position over Connor Turner and Chase Cahill-Welsh. Freshmen Luke Hoyland (Sheffield, England/Birkdale School) and Lorenzo Bortolaso (Bassano del Grappa, Italy/IT IS Enrico Fermi) were trailing Davis Matney and Alex Kim at the second spot, 5-3, when the point was claimed.
 
Le Moyne claimed three points in the singles competition to close out the match. Hatton earned his 14th consecutive victory, 6-2, 6-1, over Turner at the top spot. Teixeira extended Le Moyne's lead to 3-0 defeating Matney at the second position, 6-2, 6-3. Kim got the Bonnies in the win column with a 7-5, 6-2 win at the fourth spot over Maravillas. Cahill-Welsh made it 3-2 by rallying to beat Hoyland at the third position, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Bortolaso clinched the match for the Dolphins with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the sixth spot over Marthinus Marais. Freshman Navya Verma (Patiala, India) had a 6-1, 4-2 lead over Pindiprolu when the match was decided.
 
Le Moyne (9-10) now turns its attention to the Northeast Conference Championship, which begins Thursday at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J.
