WOMEN’S LACROSSE SNAPS SKID WITH 19-5 VICTORY OVER HOWARD

Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior attacker Bella Sampo (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) recorded a career-high seven points to lead the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team to a 19-5 victory over Howard University in Northeast Conference action on Saturday at Ted Grant Field.

The Dolphins jumped out to a 9-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Sampo started the scoring just 27 seconds into the game with her 10th goal of the season. Only 39 seconds later, junior midfielder Sara Hunter (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) scored off a feed from classmate Alexa Strelick (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas). Sophomore midfielder Maddi Barney (Lorraine, N.Y./South Jefferson) made it 3-0 at the 9:38 mark off a pass from Sampo, who followed 11 seconds later with her second goal of the day after taking a feed from freshman attacker Mackenzie Prentice (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse). Barney pushed the margin to five with an extra-player tally at the 6:15 mark off a dish from sophomore midfielder Julia Blakeslee (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca). Barney completed her hat trick with 4:54 left after taking a pass from Strelick, while Sampo completed hers 32 seconds later. Senior attacker Grace Detor (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) got into the action at the 2:50 mark by converting a free-position shot. Strelick completed the scoring in the quarter with 26 seconds left.

Sawyer Walker got the Bison on the scoreboard 56 seconds into the second quarter by converting a free-position shot.

Le Moyne tallied the final six goals of the half to take a 15-1 lead at the intermission. Prentice started the run at the 13:05 mark by finishing off a pass in transition from senior defender Katherine Amico (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius). Sampo gave the Dolphins a double-digit lead with her 13th goal of the yea with 10:14 left. Freshman midfielder Carrie Bennett (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) followed with her seventh goal of the campaign with 7:43 until halftime. Amico netted her first career goal with 4:02 left. Detor made it 14-1 with 2:24 remaining after collecting a pass from Sampo, who later found Prentice for the final goal of the half with 55 seconds to go.

Walker recorded her 25th goal of the season at the 11:26 mark of the third quarter to start the scoring in the second half.

Junior midfielder Jane Austenfeld (Lisle, N.Y./Whitney Point) tallied her sixth goal of the year with 9:04 remaining after taking a pass from sophomore attacker Emily Noel (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius).

Howard netted the next two goals. Adriyana Garrison recorded her first goal of the season with 7:35 left and Kyla Newkirk followed with her 13th with 3:39 to go.

Freshman midfielder Emily Markovina (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) netted her second goal of the campaign with 1:57 remaining off a feed from Strelick.

The Dolphins scored a pair of goals around one from Howard in the fourth quarter. Freshman midfielder Melayna Miller (Central Square, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) tallied her first career goal at the 12:00 mark off a dish from Barney. Chase Coleman got the goal back for the Bison with her fourth of the year with 9:28 to play. Detor completed the game's scoring with 2:21 left.

Sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Manfredi (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) registered six saves (against one goal) in the first half to earn her fourth win of the season. Taylor Williams made eight saves in the loss for the Bison.

Le Moyne (4-10, 3-4 NEC) closes out its non-conference schedule on Wednesday against the University at Albany at 3:00 p.m.
