WOMEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS LAFAYETTE, 4-2

Liverpool, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team earned a 4-2 win over Lafayette College in non-conference action Saturday evening at the Elevate Fitness courts in Liverpool.

Le Moyne claimed two of the three doubles matches to register the first point of the day, then won three singles matches to secure the win and improve to 8-9 on the year.

Juniors Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) and Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) narrowly bested Ally Bauer and Marie S. Romaniello by a score of 7-6 (8-6) in No. 2 doubles, while junior Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) and senior Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) tallied a 6-2 win over Olivia Boeckman and Alexandra Waldman in the third position.

In first position singles, Lafayette's Hanna Ganchi defeated graduate Feriel Mahbouli (Tunis, Tunisia/Lycee 36/South Carolina State) by a score of 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), and Boeckman claimed a 6-0, 6-3 win over Casares in the third position.

Sophomore Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) recorded a 7-6 (7-1), 6-4 win over Alyssa Perdomo in the No. 2 singles match, while Barona defeated Waldman in the fourth position, 6-2, 6-3.

Le Moyne freshman Charlotte Klein (Mellenthin, Germany/Education World Wide (Fla.)) recorded her first collegiate singles victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Bauer in the fifth position.

The Le Moyne College women's tennis team will play its final regular season match on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. against St. Bonaventure University at the Elevate Fitness courts in Liverpool. The Dolphins will celebrate Senior Day prior to the match, recognizing Barona and Mahbouli with a brief on-court ceremony.
