Easton, Mass. – The Le Moyne College baseball team suffered a 10-7 loss at Stonehill College on Saturday in game three of a Northeast Conference series at Lou Gorman Field. The Skyhawks claimed a 2-1 series victory with the win.
Senior infielder
Benji Ries (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) recorded his first career multi-home run game and tallied a season-high four RBIs during the rubber match, while sophomore catcher
Cooper Romich (North Chili, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) went 3 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs.
Ries added a double to register three extra-base hits and 10 total bases, and scored a team-high three runs.
Freshman infielder
Tim Denet (West Harrison, N.Y./Iona Prep) added a double, one run and one RBI.
Stonehill sophomore infielder Ryan LeClair launched a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth to record a team-high four RBIs for the Skyhawks, while senior outfielder Taylor Gaspar provided two hits, including a solo home run in the seventh, two runs and two RBIs.
Stonehill starting pitcher Jimmy Gilleran earned the win on the mound after recording seven strikeouts with three runs allowed in 6.0 innings of work.
Le Moyne broke the 0-0 tie with two runs in the top of the fourth, as Denet drove in Ries with a double to left field, and Romich brough in Denet with a base hit through the left side.
Stonehill responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame via an RBI single from sophomore Aidan Sengenberger and LeClair's grand slam.
Le Moyne got a run back in the fifth on a solo home run from Ries, but the Skyhawks extended their lead to 8-3 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Stonehill tacked on one run in the sixth and another in the seventh to make it 10-3.
Romich drove in junior infielder
Adam Sullivan (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) with a double in the eighth, and Ries launched a three-run home run with zero outs in the top of the ninth to cut Le Moyne's deficit to 10-7.
Stonehill right-hander Adam Martin, who registered a save during Stonehill's 5-4 win in game two, took the mound following Ries' home run and retired three of the next four batters to close out the win and register his fifth save of the season.
Le Moyne (12-21, 11-7 NEC) will return to action on Tuesday at home when they host Binghamton University for a midweek matchup at Dick Rockwell Field.
