MEN’S LACROSSE UPSET BY DETROIT MERCY, 6-3, IN NEC SEMIFINALS

Syracuse, N.Y. – The fourth-seeded University of Detroit Mercy scored the final five goals on its way to a 6-3 victory over the top-seeded Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team in the semifinals of the Northeast Conference Championship on Thursday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

The Titans, who became the first team in NEC Tournament history to hold a team scoreless over the duration of a half, advance to the NEC title game in their first season in the league and will take on Robert Morris University on Saturday at Ted Grant Field for the conference championship and automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.

Detroit Mercy opened the game's scoring at the 9:16 mark as Zach Gleason scored his first goal of the season.

After being held scoreless for almost 14 and one-half minutes, the Dolphins scored twice in a span of 20 seconds to take the lead. Redshirt sophomore attackman Thomas Berry (Tully, N.Y./Tully) tied the score at one with 31 seconds left with his 20th goal of the season after taking a pass from senior midfielder Ryan Eisenmann (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton). Following the quarter's media timeout, Le Moyne was awarded the ensuing faceoff on a violation and Eisenmann worked his way past his defender from the top of the box and scored into the upper left corner from near goal line extended with 11 seconds to go.

Following seven and one-half minutes of scoreless play to start the second quarter, graduate student attackman Zachary Delaney (Syracuse, N.Y./Onondaga/Hobart) tallied his 17th goal of the season after taking a pass in transition from first team all-conference defenseman Maui Wilhelm (Saint Johns, Fla./Creekside) with 7:19 left.

Andrew Parker pulled the Titans within 3-2 with 45 seconds remaining in the half with his 11th tally of the year after taking a feed from Aidan Bishop.

After over 10 minutes of scoreless to begin the third quarter, Detroit Mercy knotted the score at three as Nolan Graalman recorded his fifth goal of the campaign off a pass from Bishop. Following Le Moyne's fifth of seven turnovers in the quarter (compared to just one shot in the period), Bishop put the Titans in front with 2:36 to go off a dish from behind the net from Harold Skinner.

Chase Mahabir, a first team all-conference midfielder, extended Detroit Mercy's lead to 5-3 1:43 into the fourth quarter with his 24th goal of the season.

Following a possession clock violation on the Dolphins, Parker scored his second goal of the day with 8:35 remaining for the final goal of the game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lucas Winger (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South), the NEC Defensive Player of the Year, tallied 15 saves, including five in each of the first and third quarters, to keep the Dolphins in the game. Ryan Richters recorded 14 saves, including six in the second quarter and four in the fourth, to lead Detroit Mercy's stout defense, which tied the conference record for fewest goals allowed in an NEC Tournament game (Bryant 12, Robert Morris 3 in 2017 semifinals).

Le Moyne, which scored its fewest goals in a home game since a 9-3 setback in the NCAA quarterfinals on May 10, 2014 to LIU Post (now LIU, which lost in the other semifinal today), closes out its second season at the Division I level with a 9-6 record.
