Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst University Lakers closed out a conference sweep of the Le Moyne College baseball team with a 4-2 win over the Dolphins in game three on Sunday at the Mercyhurst Baseball Field.
Just like in Mercyhurst's 2-0 win in game two on Saturday, the Lakers scored all of their runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Senior outfielder Joe Trivisonno recorded two extra-base hits for the Lakers, including a two-run home run in the first inning, while senior infielder Jayden Walker added a solo home run in the opening frame.
Mercyhurst redshirt-senior right-handed starting pitcher Daniel Thomas collected the win on the mound after recording six strikeouts with six hits, three walks and two runs allowed in 5.0 innings of work.
Graduate right-hander Brandon Arnold limited the Dolphins to zero hits, one walk and zero runs in 2.0 innings in relief, then right-hander Matthew Delvaux earned his first save of the season after tallying four strikeouts with two hits and zero runs allowed in the final 2.0 innings.
Senior infielder
Benji Ries (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and sophomore infielder
Ethan Farina (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa/Saint Rose) both recorded two hits for Le Moyne during the setback, while freshman infielder
Tim Denet (West Harrison, N.Y./Iona Prep) and junior infielder
Adam Sullivan (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) both drove in a run.
Junior outfielder
Paulie Goodness (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon/Finger Lakes C.C.) recorded two walks, three stolen bases and one run for the Dolphins. Goodness has now stolen 27 bases on the year, which is tied for the most among all NEC players.
Le Moyne fifth-year right-handed starting pitcher
Bobby McBride (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster/UConn/Coastal Carolina) tallied a career-high nine strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work, then junior left-hander
Colin Skermont (Yorkville, N.Y./Whitesboro/Herkimer) tossed 3.0 scoreless innings in relief to lower his ERA during NEC play to 2.49.
Le Moyne has four games remaining on its regular season schedule, all of which will be played at home. The Dolphins will host University at Albany for a midweek contest on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m., then they will play their final conference series next weekend against Central Connecticut State.
