Recap:
Both Colgate and Le Moyne wrapped up their non-conference schedules today, as both sides looked to head into conference action with a win. The Raiders entered the game following a 2-1 win over Dartmouth on Thursday. Le Moyne entered the contest following a 1-0 loss against UAlbany last Sunday.
Le Moyne controlled possession early, building through the midfield and working the ball throughout their forwards, keeping Colgate in their own defensive third. The Dolphins earned six consecutive throw-ins, causing issues for the back line of the Raiders.
Colgate handled the pressure, earning a goal kick and creating possession of their own. They recorded their first shot five minutes into the contest, taken by sophomore midfielder Jade Vieira, as her effort missed wide right.
The Raiders scored the first goal of the game in the 6
th minute of the game. Following a goal kick taken by Le Moyne, Colgate regained possession, playing the ball to the left wing and crossing the ball into the box. The ball was initially cleared by redshirt sophomore defender
Logan Cookinham (Poland, N.Y./Poland), but gathered by senior forward Ana Schremp, playing a pass in behind the back line of Le Moyne, finding the feet of senior midfielder Ari Bezanson who calmly passed the ball into the right corner of the net to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead early.
Colgate continued to control most of the possession throughout the first half, as senior forward Ellie Stokes took a shot in the 11
th and 14
th minutes, untroubling freshman goalkeeper
Sophia Salladin (Fulton, N.Y./Hannibal).
The 'Phins made their first double change of the evening in the 23
rd minute of play, as freshman defender
Finley Brown (South Portland, Maine/Cheverus) and freshman midfielder
Ella Lathrop (Walworth, N.Y./Ruben A. Cirillo) each made their first appearance of the game.
Salladin registered her first save of the game in the 24
th minute as freshman forward Brooke Bodamer of the Raiders took a shot from distance, resulting in a comfortable save for Salladin down the center of her goal.
Sophomore defender
Mallory Pietrzak (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) entered the game three minutes later as Le Moyne continued to push for their equalizer. Salladin added another save to her tally in the 32
nd minute after freshman midfielder Molly Richards created space before taking her shot down the middle of the goal.
Freshman forward
Kaitlyn Gilhooly (Chicopee, Mass./Chicopee Comprehensive) and junior forward
Hope Adigun (Clay, N.Y./Liverpool) entered the game in the 33
rd and 35
th minute, as Colgate still held a 1-0 lead over the 'Phins. Junior defender
Maria Komala (Warsaw, Poland/LXXXI Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace im. Aleksandra Fredry/Notre Dame Ohio) made her first appearance of the game in the 38
th minute.
Neither of the two sides were able to create clear chances on goal, as Le Moyne and Colgate entered halftime with the 'Phins trailing 1-0.
Colgate, similar to the 1
st half, wasted no time coming out of the break, adding their second goal of the game in the 47
th minute. Schremp, who was the provider for the first goal, created good combinational play with sophomore forward Ellie Stokes, as Stokes and Schremp played a series of passes between the two, before Stokes slipped Schremp in behind the back line of the 'Phins. Schremp collected the ball and slotted her finish past Salladin, as the Raiders held a 2-0 lead.
In the 56
th minute of the game, Bezanson took a shot down the center of the goal, resulting in Salladin making her 3
rd save of the game.
In the 59
th minute, sophomore goalkeeper
Mikayla McPheron (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) made her first appearance since Niagara on August 21
st after battling an injury in the following weeks. Colgate and Le Moyne made several other changes throughout the 2
nd half, but neither side created a clear-cut chance for the remainder of the game.
