WOMEN’S TENNIS REGISTERS 11 WINS AT CAROUSEL CLASSIC TO OPEN YEAR

| Box Score 3 Binghamton, N.Y. – Senior Emma Sanchez Jimenez (Marbella, Spain/Victoria Kent Marbella/Eastern Florida State College/Carson-Newman) tallied three victories to lead the Le Moyne College women's tennis team at the Carousel Classic hosted by Binghamton University Friday through Sunday at Recreation Park.
 
Sanchez Jimenez posted two singles victories and one win in doubles play. Following a 6-2, 6-2 setback to Niagara's Isabel Garcia on Friday, she recorded a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 victory over Binghamton's Apara Khandare on Saturday. She closed out the weekend with a 6-1, 6-4 win on Sunday over Sophia Montero of Colgate.

Sanchez Jimenez and junior Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) went 1-2 in doubles action. In the morning round on Friday, they fell to Amelia Galin and Sophia Montero of Colgate, 6-2. They posted the same result in the afternoon against Niagara's Garcia and Maria Melo. The duo collected a 6-3 victory on Sunday over Binghamton's Loren Cuomo and Clara Lopez.
 
Seniors Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) and Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) also recorded three wins between singles and doubles action, including teaming for two doubles wins. After a 6-0, 6-0 setback to Saloni Tamang of Niagara on Friday, Alvarez earned her first singles win of the year, 6-4, 7-5 over Binghamton's Nitya Vyas. She closed out the invitational by falling to Colgate's Gigi Bohan, 6-2, 4-6, 10-6.

Simeonova won her only singles match of the weekend by retirement on Sunday over Anson Silverfield of Colgate after leading 3-1.

Alvarez and Simeonova opened the invitational with a 7-5 victory over Colgate's Bohan and Caroline Brown. In the second round, they were 6-3 winners over Larisa Kotok and Valeria Mora of Niagara. They fell to Binghamton's Khandare and Vyas, 7-6 (7-4), on Saturday.
 
Junior Lilia Raiss (Temara, Morocco/Descartes) won both of her singles matches. On Friday, she defeated Lily Dematas of Niagara, 6-2, 6-0. She was then a 6-0, 6-1 victor over Binghamton's Samantha Jaros on Saturday.

Senior Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) recorded one singles win. She tallied a 6-3, 6-4 victory on Friday over Larisa Kotok of Niagara. She then fell to Binghamton's Angel Walia on Saturday with back-to-back scores of 6-1, 6-1. After dropping the first set against Colgate's Brown on Sunday, 6-2, she retired.

Sophomore Adelie Wilson (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) split a pair of singles matches. She was a 6-2 winner over Kayla Castellano of Binghamton on Saturday. She fell to Colgate's Avery Isaac on Sunday, 6-1, 6-4.

Fernando fell in each of her singles matches. On Friday, she fell to Niagara's Melo, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6. She then dropped a 7-5, 6-3 decision to Binghamton's Cuomo on Saturday. Colgate's Rebecca Hess recorded a 6-2, 6-1 win on Sunday.

Sophomore Charlotte Klein (Mellenthin, Germany/Education World Wide (Fla.)) dropped both of her singles matches. On Friday, Nadia Hern of Niagara posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Klein. Castellano of Binghamton was a 6-3, 7-5 winner on Saturday.

On Friday morning, Casares and Wilson fell to Colgate's Anya Kunar and Silverfield, 7-5, and Raiss and Klein were defeated by Sasha Herman and Paige Rothwell, 6-1.
 
Casares and Raiss were edged by Binghamton's Samantha Jaros and Angel Walia, 6-3, on Saturday.

The Dolphins are back in Binghamton Friday through Sunday at the NateRentals.com Binghamton Championships at the Lane-Starke Tennis Center.
