ZUCCHINI AND SEGUBIENSE EARN FLIGHT WINS TO LEAD MEN’S TENNIS AT NATERENTALS.COM BINGHAMTON CHAMPIONSHIPS

Binghamton, N.Y. – Freshmen Carlo Zucchini (Varese, Italy/European School of Varese) and Gabriel Segubiense (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements) won their singles flights to lead the Le Moyne College men's tennis team at the NateRentals.com Binghamton Championships hosted by Binghamton University Friday through Sunday at the Lane-Starke Tennis Center.

Zucchini won the "B" flight with a trio of victories. He started the event with a 6-2, 6-4 win over FDU's Gareth Ong. He was then a 6-3, 6-3 winner in the semifinals on Saturday over Gregory Troyan of Saint Francis. He won the flight on Sunday with a 7-6 (7-1), 7-5 victory over FDU's Jorge Alonso-Cortes.

Segubiense claimed the "F" flight with three wins. He defeated FDU's Arya Subaash Prabhu, 6-2, 6-4 in the first round. He was leading Mercyhurst's Derek Winsness in the semifinals, 6-2, 2-0, when Winsness had to retire. He captured the flight with a 6-3, 6-2 victory on Sunday over Jonah Ng of Saint Francis.

In the "A" flight, junior Emmanuel Cottle (Toronto, Ontario/Ontario Virtual School/Alcorn State) went 1-1. He opened with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over FDU's Tauras Mickus. He fell in the quarterfinals to Binghamton's Ronin Lotlikar, 6-4, 6-4.
 
In the "C" flight, sophomore Luke Hoyland (Sheffield, England/Birkdale School) fell in both of his matches. He dropped his opening round match to Binghamton's Andrew Fang. On Saturday, he was defeated by LIU's Bassil Touban, 6-3, 7-5.

Sophomore Jacob Maravillas (Bergenfield, N.J./Homeschooled) placed fifth in the "D" flight. He fell in the first round to FDU's Andrew Nicolae, 7-5, 6-3. He followed with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Colm Schultz of Mercyhurst on Saturday. In the fifth-place match, he was a 6-4, 6-7 (0-7), 10-6 winner over Noah Potts of Saint Francis.

In the "E" flight, sophomore Lorenzo Bortolaso (Bassano del Grappa, Italy/IT IS Enrico Fermi) fell in both of his matches. He took a 6-2, 4-6, 10-3 loss in the first round to Blake Lorenzo of Saint Francis. He fell to Mercyhurst's Petar Belosevic, 6-1, 6-3 on Saturday.

Junior Yegor Boyev (London, England/Ashcroft Technology Academy) finished in fourth place in the "G" flight. He rallied to win his opening match, 2-6, 7-5, 10-4, over Wagner's Sebastian Dobson. He fell to Mario Beckles of Saint Francis on Saturday, 7-5, 6-4. In the third-place match, he fell to FDU's Matias Neira, 7-5, 6-2.

Bortolaso and classmate Callum Matthew (Dorset, England/Highcliffe School) advanced to the final of the doubles "B" flight. They opened with a 6-2 victory over Blake Lorenzo and Sebastian Quinones from Saint Francis. In the semifinals, they defeated Mercyhurst's Lukas Cabue and Nikola Radisic, 7-6 (7-3). They were edged in the final by Mercyhurst's Colm Schultz and Petar Belosevic.

Maravillas and Segubiense placed fifth in the "B" flight. They fell to Schultz and Belosevic from Mercyhurst in the first round, 6-4. On Saturday, they beat FDU's Asaf Schwartz and Jorge Alonso-Cortes. In the fifth-place match, they defeated Wagner's Sebastian Dobson and Joshua Zhao, 6-3.

Boyev and Hoyland also finished fifth in the "C" flight. They were downed by Stonehill's Javier Gutierrez Arreaga and Benjamin Beaudry, 6-2, in the first round. They answered back with a 6-4 win over Mercyhurst's Kazumasa Sadohara and Raul Davalos. They won the fifth-place match by retirement over Mercyhurst's Mykhailo Polishchuck and Derek Winsness.

In the "A" flight, Cottle and Zucchini went 1-1. They opened with a 6-2 win over LIU's James Vincent and Jack Brimm. In the quarterfinals, they fell to Binghamton's Lotlikar and William Morais Binnie, 6-4.

The Dolphins are next in action at the ITA New England Regional October 8-14 at Yale University in New Haven, Conn.
