Syracuse, N.Y. – Le Moyne College head men's basketball coach Nate Champion '14 announced on Thursday morning the hiring of Jamie Young as an assistant coach.
 
Young previously served as an assistant coach for the Dolphins during the 2023-24 academic year, the institution's first year at the Division I level. Young returns to Le Moyne after spending one year on the staff at Villanova University.

During his initial stint on the Le Moyne coaching staff, Young helped guide the Dolphins to a 15-17 record, including 9-7 in NEC action. The Dolphins earned the fourth seed in the NEC Championship and recorded a victory over FDU in the first round before falling to eventual runner-up Merrimack in the semifinals.

Young, who has 23 years of experience in the National Basketball Association, initially came to Le Moyne after spending two years as an Assistant Coach with the Philadelphia 76ers. He collaborated with other coaches to game plan for opponents and planned and designed drills for practices and pre-game walkthroughs. The 76ers claimed a top-four seed each of Young's two seasons on staff and advanced to the conference semifinals both years.
 
He spent the 20 years prior to that in various roles with the Boston Celtics. He served as video coordinator from 2001 through 2007 and then became an advanced scout, a role he filled from 2007 until 2011. He was then promoted by then-head coach Doc Rivers to an assistant coach in Summer 2011. During his 20 years in Boston, the Celtics qualified for the playoffs 17 times, advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals on six occasions and appeared in the NBA Finals in 2008 and 2010. The Celtics claimed the franchise's 17th NBA Championship in 2008. In his various roles, he collaborated with other coaches to game plan for opponents, planned and designed drills for practices and pre-game walkthroughs, assisted with player development and worked out assigned players, traveled nationally to games scouting upcoming opponents and analyzed game film and worked closely with coaches to prepare game edits for film
sessions.
 
He got his start in the NBA as an Assistant Video Coordinator with the New Jersey Nets during the 2000-01 season. In this role, he live-logged Nets games to prepare edits for the coaching staff and analyzed game film and worked closely with coaches to prepare game edits for film
sessions.
 
Young started his coaching career as an Assistant Coach at Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois from 1998 to 2000. He assisted with offensive and defensive planning, led practices and individual player workouts and recruited players to the school and basketball program.
 
In addition to his coaching career, he launched the non-profit Young Hope Basketball Academy to provide basketball camps to kids in 2nd through 8th grades. All proceeds went to the Erika Kate Hope Alliance and provided grants to families with children receiving cardiac care.
 
A native of Logansport, Indiana, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education, K-12, in 1998 from Blackburn College, where he was a member of the football and men's basketball teams.
