Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) and
Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) recorded four wins each to lead the Le Moyne College women's tennis team to 15 wins on Saturday and Sunday at the Colgate Invitational.
On Saturday, the Dolphins opened the morning by taking two of three doubles matches against Niagara University. Senior
Emma Sanchez Jimenez (Marbella, Spain/Victoria Kent Marbella/Eastern Florida State College/Carson-Newman) and junior
Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) defeated Saloni Tamang and Lily Dematas, 6-4. Casares and sophomore
Adelie Wilson (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) cruised to a 6-1 win over Amelia Greenawalt and Maria Niculescu. Nadia Guerrero and Julia Clarke-Louie earned Niagara's win by edging senior
Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) and Simeonova, 7-6 (8-6).
Le Moyne then took three of five singles matches against Siena University. Sanchez Jimenez was a 6-3, 4-6, 10-3 winner over Andrea Vargas. Alvarez rallied to defeat Selma Bellaouchi, 3-6, 6-1, 10-7. Casares was victorious at the fourth position over Madeline De Faber, 7-5, 6-4. Manuela Gomez downed Fernando at the second spot, 6-3, 7-5. Reegan Mullaney rallied for a 1-6, 6-2, 10-2 win at the fifth position over Simeonova.
In the afternoon session, the Dolphins won four of six singles matches against Colgate. Sanchez Jimenez won her third match of the day, 6-3, 6-4, over Amelia Galin. Fernando registered a 6-3, 3-6, 10-3 win against Sophia Montero. Casares moved to 3-0 by rallying to defeat Anya Kunar, 2-6, 6-2, 10-7. Simeonova was a 6-4, 7-5 winner over Sasha Herman. Rebecca Hess tallied a 6-1, 6-4 for the Raiders over Alvarez. Vivian Hall rallied for a 2-6, 6-3, 10-3 victory over Wilson.
On Sunday, the Dolphins opened the day by going 1-2 in doubles action against Colgate. Alvarez and Simeonova picked up Le Moyne's win, 7-5, over Hess and Avery Isaac. Galin and Montero knocked off Sanchez Jimenez and Fernando, 6-4, at the top spot. Gigi Bohan and Caroline Brown tallied a 6-3 win over Casares and Wilson.
The Dolphins then split two doubles matches with Siena and lost a singles match.
Alvarez and Simeonova won their second match of the day, 6-1, over De Faber and Mullaney.
Vargas and Gomez were 6-4 winners over Sanchez Jimenez and Fernando. With Siena only having five players, Wilson and Bellaouchi played a singles match, with Bellaouchi coming out on top, 6-2.
Le Moyne closed out the weekend by winning four of six singles matches against Niagara.
Fernando registered a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Guerrero. Casares earned her fourth win of the weekend, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8, against Clarke-Louie. Simeonova registered her fourth victory in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, over Niculescu. Wilson earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Greenawalt. Tamang posted back-to-back scores of 7-5 to down Sanchez Jimenez. Valeria Mora was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Alvarez.
The Dolphins are back on the courts at the ITA New England Regional October 8-14 at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass.
