Newark, Del. – The Le Moyne College volleyball team wrapped up the Blue Hen Invitational by facing off against host Delaware University on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Hens came away with a three-set victory, taking down the Dolphins 25-17, 25-12, and 25-18. Le Moyne now sits with a 1-5 overall record on the season.
For the Dolphins, sophomore outside hitters Jordyn Hamlin (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) and Nina Salas (Austin, T.X. / McNeil) led the team in kills with seven apiece, with Salas recording a team-high 7.5 points. Senior setter Haley Gerken (Buffalo, N.Y. / Frontier), sophomore setter Skylar Jehlen (Rochester, N.Y. / Churchville-Chili), and sophomore libero/DS Brooke Menke (St. Louis, M.O. / Visitation Academy) each tallied one service ace against the Blue Hens, with Gerken adding a team-leading 17 assists for Le Moyne. Menke sat at the top of the statsheet with eight digs in the loss while Gerken and senior middle hitter Nil Ezgi Tasdelen (Izmir, Turkey/Ugur Okullari) both registered the match-high in blocks with 3.0.
Anna Logan Gillens led Delaware in kills (19) and digs (12), while Dylan Norris also recorded double-digit kills with 11 against Le Moyne. Kristyn Membreno added a match-leading four service aces while Kennedi Inman tallied 35 assists. Norris and Asia Murray each added 3.0 blocks for the Blue Hens in the victory.
Following the matchup, Gerken was named to the Blue Hen Invitational All-Tournament team after totaling 4.5 points, one kill, one service ace, 73 assists, 19 digs, and five block assists through Le Moyne's three matches over the weekend.
Le Moyne will travel to Annapolis, Md. to take part in the Navy Invitational next weekend, Friday and Saturday, Sep. 12-13. The Dolphins will take on Gardner-Webb University first at 3:00 p.m. on Friday before matching up with host Navy at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
