Williamsville, N.Y. – Le Moyne College women's tennis team opened the Spring season with a 7-0 setback to the University at Buffalo on Friday afternoon at the Miller Tennis Center.
The Bulls claimed the point in the doubles competition after sweeping the three matches. At the first spot, Esmee Andresen and Maria Glowacka tallied a 6-1 victory over senior
Emma Sanchez Jimenez (Marbella, Spain/Victoria Kent Marbella/Eastern Florida State College/Carson-Newman) and junior
Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College). Blanca Berges and Liv Roestel edged seniors
Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) and
Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) at the second position, 7-5. Julia Laspro and Sarah Hartel were 6-2 winners at the third spot over senior
Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) and junior
Lilia Raiss (Temara, Morocco/Descartes).
Buffalo also recorded a sweep of the singles competition. Andresen downed Sanchez Jimenez at the top spot, 7-5, 6-1. Glowacka was a winner at the second position over Fernando, 6-1, 6-2. Laspro topped Casares at the third spot, 6-0, 6-3. Hartel claimed a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the fourth position over Alvarez. Berges recorded back-to-back scores of 6-1 to defeat Simeonova at the fifth spot. Sofia Zagumennova completed the sweep by blanking Raiss at the sixth position, 6-0, 6-0.
Le Moyne (0-1) returns to the courts next Saturday against NEC foe Saint Francis at the Ebensburg Tennis Center in Ebensburg, Pa.
