Altoona, Pa. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team fell in its NEC opener, 6-1, to Saint Francis University on Saturday afternoon at Gorilla House Gym.
The Red Flash opened the match by sweeping the doubles competition. At the first position, Helena Lynn and Reagen Mangan were 6-2 winners over juniors
Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) and
Lilia Raiss (Temara, Morocco/Descartes). Gabriela Almanza and Kelly Dowuona recorded a 6-3 win at the second spot over seniors
Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and
Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset). Emma Marais and Sophia Cunningham registered a 6-1 victory over seniors
Emma Sanchez Jimenez (Marbella, Spain/Victoria Kent Marbella/Eastern Florida State College/Carson-Newman) and
Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) at the third position.
Saint Francis claimed five of the six matches in the singles competition. At the top spot, Dasha Chichkina recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Sanchez Jimenez. Lynn claimed a 6-1, 6-3 win over Simeonova at the third position. Dowuona defeated Casares at the fourth spot, 6-0, 6-2. Mangan was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at the fifth position over Alvarez. Marais closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Raiss at the sixth spot. Le Moyne's point came at the second position where Fernando was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Almanza.
Le Moyne (0-2, 0-1 NEC) is back in action on Sunday against UMass at 5:00 p.m. at Elevate Fitness in DeWitt.
