Women's bowling heads to the Mercyhurst Invitational on Saturday and Sunday

WOMEN’S BOWLING TO PLAY INAUGURAL TOURNAMENT THIS WEEKEND AT MERCYHURST INVITATIONAL

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's bowling team will make its program debut this weekend at the Mercyhurst Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Rolling Meadows.

Under the direction of head coach John Martin, the Dolphins have nine student-athletes on the roster in their first season of competition. Four members of the team won the CACC Tournament Championship in March and earned a berth in the NCAA Championships as members of the program at Dominican University. Third year Kyra Walter (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) was named the CACC Bowler of the Year and to the All-Conference First Team. Fourth year Angelina Tati (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) joined Walter on the CACC First Team. Second year Jenna Jump (Port Byron, N.Y./Dana L. West) was a consistent member of the lineup for the Chargers, while also joining the Dolphins from Dominican is third year Nicolette Miller (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip). Second year Abigail London (Chandler, Ariz./Chandler) came to Le Moyne from Valparaiso, where Martin was the coach for the last two years. The first two first years in the program's history are Sandy Ferlo (Mohawk, N.Y./Central Valley Academy) and Carmen Youngs (Boonville, N.Y./West Canada Valley). Also joining the program are fourth years Kathryn Arts (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) and Sophia Vasil (Troy, N.Y./Catholic Central).

The Mercyhurst Invitational will feature nine teams and consist of traditional and baker formats. The Dolphins will get their season underway on Saturday on lanes 17 and 18 against William Smith College, which is ranked 10th in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Division II & Division III preseason poll. Their second match will be on lanes 21 and 22 against Hilbert College. Their first Division I opponent will be Duquesne University, which is ranked 16th in the NTCA Division I preseason poll, on lanes 9 and 10. Following a bye in the fourth round of matches, the Dolphins will conclude the day against Roberts Wesleyan University on lanes 13 and 14.
 
On Sunday, the Dolphins will play the program's first Baker match on lanes 5 and 6 against D'Youville. They will then play the host Lakers on lanes 21 and 22. Their third match of the day will come against Daemen on lanes 9 and 10. They'll conclude round robin play on lanes 5 and 6 against Niagara, which is ranked 14th in the NTCA Division I preseason poll.
 
Sunday's action will conclude with best-of-7 baker matches in the position round.
