LOCKWOOD AND BLAKESLEE LEAD WOMEN’S LACROSSE TO 11-8 SEASON-OPENING WIN AT PRESBYTERIAN

Clinton, S.C. – Redshirt junior attacker Olivia Lockwood (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/Onondaga C.C.) scored eight goals to lead the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team to an 11-8 victory over Presbyterian College on Sunday afternoon at Bailey Memorial Stadium.

Lockwood's eight goals are tied with Liz Hewitt '06 from April 24, 2005 against Niagara for the most by a Dolphin in a Division I game and are in a three-way tie for the second-most overall in the program's 33-year history. The eight goals are the most by a Dolphin since Brenna Bauer '13 had eight at Southern Connecticut State on April 10, 2012. Her eight points are the most by a Dolphin since Sara Goodwin had eight against Pace on May 7, 2023 in the NE10 Championship game.

The Dolphins tallied the first two goals of the contest. Lockwood netted the first goal at the 12:39 mark off a pass from senior attacker Bella Sampo (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill). Just over three minutes later, Sampo found the back of the net.

The Blue Hose answered with the next two goals. Following green and yellow cards on the Dolphins, Kate Dominick converted a free-position shot in the extra-player situation with 7:27 remaining in the quarter. Dominick converted another free-position shot with 3:48 to go.

Sophomore attacker Mackenzie Prentice (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) gave the lead back to the Dolphins with 2:38 left off a dish from Sampo.

Lockwood scored the first three goals of the second quarter to extend the lead to 6-2. Her first of the stanza was unassisted with 12:58 remaining. She then finished off a pass from Prentice with 9:36 to go. With 6:58 left, she found the back of the net after collecting a pass from junior attacker Emily Noel (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius).

Emily Currie snapped the run with 4:05 to go off a pass from Dominick.

Lockwood netted her fourth goal of the quarter with just five seconds left after receiving a pass from junior midfielder Maddi Barney (Lorraine, N.Y./South Jefferson).

Lockwood pushed Le Moyne's lead to 8-3 at the 11:40 mark of the third quarter off a feed from Noel.

The Blue Hose countered with the next two goals. Kaylie Rittmueller scored with 10:17 left and then Alyssa Perez followed at the 9:22 mark off a pass from Emma Claire Mills.

Lockwood extended the lead back to five with the last two goals of the quarter. She tallied her sixth straight Dolphin goal with 2:13 to go after taking a dish from senior attacker Alexa Strelick (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas). Following a green card on the Blue Hose, Lockwood found the back of the net for the eighth time with 25 seconds remaining after taking a pass in the extra-player situation from Sampo. During her sophomore campaign at Onondaga C.C., Lockwood had nine goals in her first game against Monroe and eight goals in her second games against Harford and Monroe.

Presbyterian tallied the first two goals of the fourth quarter to get back within three. After receiving a pass from Madeleine Lowrance, Sydney Howard scored with 9:56 remaining. Howard scored again with 7:14 left to make it 10-7.

Junior midfielder Julia Blakeslee (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) netted her first goal of the season with 1:48 left to complete Le Moyne's scoring.

Rittmueller closed out the game's scoring with three seconds left off a feed from Dominick.

Junior goalkeeper Amanda Manfredi (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) earned the win between the pipes after making three saves. Blakeslee finished the game with 13 draw controls, which is the third-most in a game in the program's history and the most in a Division I game. Kayleigh Aitken took the loss between the pipes for the Blue Hose and made seven saves.

Le Moyne (1-0), which won its season opener for the second time in three years, remains in northwest South Carolina to take on another Big South opponent, Wofford College, on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
