WOMEN’S LACROSSE REGISTERS 13-9 WIN OVER WOFFORD

Spartanburg, S.C. – Junior midfielder Maddi Barney (Lorraine, N.Y./South Jefferson) was a force on both ends of the field to lead the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team to a 13-9 win over Wofford College on Tuesday afternoon at Gibbs Stadium.

The Dolphins took a 2-0 lead through the first five and one-half minutes. Redshirt junior attacker Olivia Lockwood (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/Onondaga C.C.) started the scoring 2:40 into the game. Graduate student attacker Francesca Tortora (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Stony Brook) netted her first career goal with 9:34 to go off a pass from Barney.

The Terriers cut into their deficit at the 7:05 mark as Kaitlyn Bellanca finished off a feed from Olivia Graebner.

Le Moyne scored five straight goals over the final 6:15 of the first quarter and two minutes of the second quarter. Tortora started the run with 6:15 remaining in the period after taking a pass from sophomore attacker Mackenzie Prentice (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse). Just 43 seconds later, junior midfielder Julia Blakeslee (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) tallied her second goal of the season. Lockwood registered her 10th goal of the campaign with 3:18 to go for a 5-1 lead. Barney netted her first goal of the season just 10 seconds into the second quarter after the Dolphins started the period with the ball. She scored again just under two minutes later.

Wofford snapped the run at the 12:26 mark as Graebner found the back of the net.

The Dolphins scored twice in 60 seconds to push their lead to 9-2. Lockwood scored the first at the 9:42 mark off a pass from Tortora and Prentice followed with 8:42 left.

Emma Stalteri capped the scoring in the quarter with 7:17 remaining to get Wofford within 9-3.

The Terriers scored the first three goals of the third quarter to cut their deficit in half. Carlie Cutinella started the run at the 13:06 mark by converting a free-position shot. Just over 70 seconds later, McKenzie Moeller tallied her sixth goal of the season off a pass from Stalteri. Cutinella made it 9-6 with 7:06 remaining after taking a pass in an extra-player situation from Bellanca.

Le Moyne scored twice around a Wofford goal over the final two minutes of the stanza to take an 11-7 lead into the final quarter. Senior attacker Bella Sampo (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) scored the team's first goal of the quarter with 1:43 left off a free-position shot. Graebner answered back 57 seconds later off a feed from Katie Brosseau. Tortora completed the quarter's scoring with 22 seconds remaining.

Barney scored her third goal of the day just under two minutes into the fourth quarter off a pass from junior attacker Emily Noel (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius).

Wofford got back within three with the next two goals. Bellanca finished off a feed from Moeller with 6:19 to go and Morgan Siglin followed 25 seconds later with her first of the year off a dish from Moeller.

Tortora countered 41 seconds later with her fourth goal of the afternoon to finish off the game's scoring.

Junior goalkeeper Amanda Manfredi (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) tallied nine saves, including five in the second quarter, to earn the win between the pipes. To go with her four points, Barney finished the game with four ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls. Hannah Taylor registered 14 saves in the setback for the Terriers.

Le Moyne (2-0), which has won its first two games for the first time since 2023, opens its home schedule on Saturday against Niagara University at 11:00 a.m.
