WOMEN’S LACROSSE EDGED BY NIAGARA, 8-7, IN HOME OPENER

Syracuse, N.Y. – Kensington Keane converted a free-position shot with six minutes remaining to give Niagara University an 8-7 come-from-behind win over the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team on Saturday at Ted Grant Field.

The Purple Eagles started the scoring just over one minute into the game Michaela Delles found the back of the net.

Le Moyne answered with four goals in a span of seven and one-half minutes. Following an errant pass by the Purple Eagles, redshirt junior attacker Olivia Lockwood (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/Onondaga C.C.) scooped up the ball and raced up field. She sent a pass to her left to graduate student attacker Francesca Tortora (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Stony Brook), who fired in her fifth goal of the season with 10:59 left. Just under five minutes later, junior midfielder Julia Blakeslee (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) tallied her third goal of the campaign. Junior midfielder Maddi Barney (Lorraine, N.Y./South Jefferson) followed with her fourth tally of the season with 4:19 to go. Just 53 seconds later, senior attacker Alexa Strelick (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) netted her first marker of the year for a 4-1 lead.

Maive Partlow got the Purple Eagles within 4-2 with 17 seconds left in the quarter.

Following three cards on the Dolphins in a span of 25 seconds, the first of which was Lockwood's second yellow of the game, leading to her disqualification, Maddy Gill collected the rebound of a saved free-position shot and deposited it into the net with 11:14 left in the second stanza.

The Dolphins regained a multi-goal lead with 41 seconds remaining as sophomore midfielder Emily Markovina (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) converted a free-position shot for her first goal of the season.

Niagara scored two goals in the first 2:43 of the third quarter to knot the score at five apiece. Delles scored the first just 27 seconds into the stanza. Keane followed 2:16 later with her first tally of the game.

Le Moyne regained the lead with 8:28 left as Barney registered her second goal of the contest.

The Purple Eagles took advantage of a green card on the Dolphins as Olivia Ng finished off a pass from Keane in the extra-player situation with 1:26 left in the quarter to even the score at six.

Delles put Niagara in front for the second time with 11:06 remaining in the fourth quarter after receiving a pass from Keane.

Markovina tied the score for the fourth time at the 7:42 mark after collecting a feed from Tortora.

Following Le Moyne's fifth yellow card of the game with 6:05 left, Keane converted the ensuing free-position shot to put the Purple Eagles in front for the final time.

The Dolphins had three possessions over the final six minutes of the game, but were unable to get off a shot to potentially tie the score.

Junior goalkeeper Amanda Manfredi (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) registered nine saves in suffering her first loss of the season. Haley Terry turned away 10 shots to earn the victory between the pipes.

Le Moyne (2-1) is back in action on Wednesday at Binghamton University at 3:00 p.m.
