Latham, N.Y. – Siena University registered a 4-3 win over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team on Saturday night at Tri-City Fitness.
The Saints claimed the point in the doubles competition by winning the first two matches to finish. At the second spot, Manuela Gomez and Madeline De Faber registered a 6-4 win over seniors
Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and
Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset). Selma Bellaouchi and Reegan Mullaney were 6-3 winners at the third position over senior
Emma Sanchez Jimenez (Marbella, Spain/Victoria Kent Marbella/Eastern Florida State College/Carson-Newman) and junior
Lilia Raiss (Temara, Morocco/Descartes). Zaara Omar and Andrea Vargas were leading junior
Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) and senior
Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) at the top spot, 4-3, when the point was clinched.
Siena claimed the match by splitting the singles competition. At the third position, Vargas rallied to defeat Simeonova, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Mullaney also had to overcome a deficit for a 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 6-3 win over Alvarez at the fifth spot. De Faber turned in a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 victory at the sixth position over Raiss.
Sanchez Jimenez registered a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Gomez at the top spot. Fernando also won in straight sets over Omar at the second position, 7-5, 6-4. Casares earned Le Moyne's third point, 6-0, 3-6, 7-5, at the fourth spot over Bellaouchi.
Le Moyne (0-4) returns to action on Tuesday against Mercyhurst University at 12:30 p.m. at Elevate Fitness in Liverpool.
