Liverpool, N.Y. – Mercyhurst University rallied for a 4-3 win over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team on Tuesday afternoon at Elevate Fitness.
Le Moyne took a 1-0 lead in the match by securing the point in the doubles competition. Senior
Emma Sanchez Jimenez (Marbella, Spain/Victoria Kent Marbella/Eastern Florida State College/Carson-Newman) and junior
Lilia Raiss (Temara, Morocco/Descartes) blanked Ellyana Jacobs and Mollie Gray at the third spot, 6-0, to put the Dolphins in front. Simone Mercier and Kiersten Brown evened doubles at one apiece with a 6-2 win over seniors
Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and
Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) at the second position. At the top spot, junior
Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) and senior
Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) registered a 6-4 win over Daria Rogova and Celeste Davis to clinch the point.
Mercyhurst answered with four wins in the singles competition to capture the match. Rogova was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Sanchez Jimenez at the top spot. Mercier registered a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the second position over Fernando. Brown tallied a 7-6 (7-5), 0-6, 6-4 win over Simeonova at the third spot for a 3-1 lead. Casares kept the Dolphins in the match by defeating Jacobs at the fourth position, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2. Davis clinched the match for the Lakers with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory at the fifth spot over Alvarez. Raiss earned Le Moyne's third point, 6-0, 6-1, over Gray at the sixth position.
Le Moyne (0-5, 0-2 NEC) is back in action on Saturday at the University of Rhode Island at 6:45 p.m.
