WOMEN’S LACROSSE REMAINS UNBEATEN ON THE ROAD WITH 16-10 WIN AT MANHATTAN

Riverdale, N.Y. – Redshirt junior attacker Olivia Lockwood (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/Onondaga C.C.) and graduate student attacker Francesca Tortora (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Stony Brook) each scored four goals to lead the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team to a 16-10 win over Manhattan University on Saturday afternoon at Gaelic Park.

Following six minutes of scoreless action to start the game, Lockwood and Tortora scored 92 seconds apart to give the Dolphins a 2-0 lead with 7:15 remaining.

Less than one minute later, Meghan Wendler got the Jaspers on the scoreboard off a pass from Logan Pilon.

Senior attacker Alexa Strelick (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) completed the scoring in the quarter by converting a free-position shot with 2:05 left.

Julia Kerr trimmed the margin back to one with 8:51 left in the second quarter on a free-position shot.

Le Moyne responded with four straight goals to take a 7-2 advantage. Sophomore attacker Mackenzie Prentice (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) started the run with 6:31 left off a pass from junior midfielder Maddi Barney (Lorraine, N.Y./South Jefferson). Tortora followed 68 seconds later by scoring during an extra-player situation. Strelick converted another free-position shot with 3:47 remaining to force a Manhattan timeout. Tortora capped the streak with 3:11 to go.

Lauren Maher scored in an extra-player situation with 1:17 left in the half to get the Jaspers within 7-3 at halftime.

The teams alternated goals over the opening seven minutes of the third quarter. With Manhattan starting the half with an extra player, Pilon found the back of the net with 13:33 left. Lockwood answered back with 10:47 to go to put the Dolphins back up four. Maya Metz got the Jaspers within three for the final time with 10:14 remaining by finishing off a feed from Katelynn Naylor in an extra-player situation. Barney netted the final goal of the see-saw with 8:03 left by converting a free-position shot.

Prentice finished off the scoring in the third quarter with 11 seconds remaining for a 10-5 lead.

The Dolphins extended their run to seven straight goals with the first five of the fourth quarter. Lockwood started the streak just 59 seconds into the period. Junior midfielder Julia Blakeslee (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) followed with her fifth goal of the season with 12:44 to play. Lockwood converted a free-position shot 70 seconds later for her fourth goal of the game and 19th of the season. Senior attacker Bella Sampo (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) recorded her third goal of the year with 10:36 left off a feed from Strelick. Tortora followed 68 seconds later for her fourth tally of the contest after collecting a pass from Sampo to give the Dolphins a double-digit lead.

Manhattan answered with three consecutive goals. Kerr started the stretch with her second goal of the game with 6:54 left. Ella Brunette scored two and one-half minutes later and then Kerr converted a free-position shot with 3:37 to play.

Junior attacker Emily Noel (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) completed Le Moyne's scoring with 2:10 left when her pass attempt missed its target and got past the goalkeeper.

The Jaspers scored twice in the final two minutes to deliver the final score. Brunette scored just 10 seconds after Noel's goal after winning the draw control and racing up field. Metz finished the scoring with 27 seconds left when there were two balls in play, including one in the goalkeeper's possession after it became dislodged from a Manhattan player, after a restart behind the Le Moyne goal.

Junior goalkeeper Amanda Manfredi (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) earned her fourth win of the year after making six saves (against five goals) over 51:28 between the pipes. Sophia Pasnak took the loss after making nine saves.
