Lakeville, Mass. – Stonehill College rallied during singles action to 4-3 victory over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team on Sunday afternoon at the Lakeville Athletic Club.
The Dolphins swept the doubles competition to take a 1-0 lead in the match. At the top spot, junior
Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) and senior
Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) blanked Anneliese Beltran and Julie Holte, 6-0. Senior
Emma Sanchez Jimenez (Marbella, Spain/Victoria Kent Marbella/Eastern Florida State College/Carson-Newman) and junior
Lilia Raiss (Temara, Morocco/Descartes) clinched the point with a 6-3 win at the third position over Madison Warren and Iliana deArmas. Seniors
Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) and
Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) completed the sweep with a 7-5 victory over Arya Chabria and Lilah Shallcross at the second spot.
Stonehill won four of the six matches in the singles competition to take the victory. Shallcross started the comeback by defeating Simeonova at the third position, 6-1, 6-4. Warren followed with back-to-back scores of 6-4 against Fernando at the second spot. Holte made it 3-1 by rallying for a 0-6, 6-4, 6-0 win at the first position over Sanchez Jimenez. Alvarez pulled the Dolphins within 3-2 with downing Beltran at the fifth spot, 6-1, 6-0. Chabria clinched the match by rallying for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Casares at the fourth position. Raiss claimed the point at the sixth spot over deArmas, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
Le Moyne (0-7, 0-3 NEC) is back on the courts on Friday against Colgate University at 6:00 p.m. at Drumlins Country Club.
